“Great view but no pain no gain”

Reviewed Jun 15, 2018

Overall Rating

The camping sites are in the middle of the mountain that you need to overcome a lot of potholes on the washed road. I drove very slowly, 5 mph because worried my SUV and my travel trailer would be damaged. If your tow vehicle or travel trailer is old, I don’t recommend this place because the wheel parts will suffer a lot from the r... more

“Great View of GTNP”

Reviewed Oct 15, 2017

Overall Rating

Road going up the hill was not too bad for our RV. Roads below had some muddy spots, and were rough. Found space 8 to be relatively flat. Had a beautiful red fox run through our site early the next morning. Picked nearby TV stations. Only negative I can think of is guy zooming down the rocky road like a bat out of hell past ... more

“Awesome views but rough road”

Reviewed Oct 04, 2017

Overall Rating

Great views of the Tetons from this spot. Plenty of spots that are up on a hill and give you a great opportunity to see the valley. It was a bit overcast when I was there and would still recommend it. Fire pit it designated spots. Very hilly road with some wash out spots that made it a interesting drive up. Should be fine even with... more

“Very nice boon-docking ”

Reviewed Sep 05, 2017

Overall Rating

For us this seemed like a much better option for boon docking than Upper Teton view. There are many sites which are designated but yet boon docking. The view is actually better here and more sites have view than Upper Teton view.

“Amazing Views”

Reviewed Aug 07, 2017

This was our first shot at boondocking and this spot will be hard to beat. Arrived late on a Wednesday afternoon and were able to find a spot up top in the "group" area. Clean, level and a view to die for. This group area was like a small community. My wife was comfortable with me leaving her alone when I went off hiking for hours.... more

“Perfect camping!”

Reviewed Jan 04, 2017

Overall Rating

This spot is wonderful for remote, dispersed camping. There is access to a small campground area at the bottom of the mountain, but the views at the top are well worth the drive. We visited in June and there were many great spots available for camping. The views of the Tetons are unmatched. Our camping neighbors were quiet and resp... more

“Wake up to the Grand Teton in your face”

Reviewed Aug 26, 2016

Overall Rating

The road is about 3 miles long and got pretty rough the further in you got, but our cr-v did just fine. The view is absolutely worth the long drive in, and you cannot beat free. This is such a great resource and we'll be staying here again in the future! I read there were toilets but we didn't venture in far enough to find them.

“Great views, rough roads, poor cell speeds”

Reviewed Aug 12, 2016

Shadow Mountain is a popular place. When we arrived on a Sunday, all of the spots that have been previously reviewed were taken. We continued to slog up the hill, bouncing over sharp rocks and trying to keep our momentum up. We finally found a spot that would accommodate us about 3/4 up the mountain. The road is probably one of the rou... more

“Best free view of the Tetons you can get”

Reviewed Apr 20, 2016

Its a popular spot for a reason. The amazing site up the road can fit several rigs although a lot of the bigger rigs or trailers usually don't try to go there. Its easy and worth it though. I've been here when it has been packed and Ive been here just after Labor Day and had the whole place to myself. Its hard to beat this spot. Of all... more

“Incredible views of the Tetons with private sites”

Reviewed Oct 13, 2015

Overall Rating

While there are other options for free boondocking with expansive views of the Tetons, Shadow Mountain is our favorite. We preferred the privacy of the sites, each off its own small dirt access road, than the more open camping at Teton View. Of course, that means you never quite know which site you'll end up in at Shadow Mountain. ... more
