First make a free reservation at the St Johns Water Management District website. No RV’s allowed, primitive camping only. We stayed in DEC and had to reserve several weeks out. The approach is about 4 miles on a good dirt road. Then using the gate code you get from your reservation, enter your own personal paradise. There are two shelters, two grills, a fire ring, and a well stocked and tolerably clean port-o-pottie. It is also well stocked with chameleons! There is a hand pump but the water is not potable.

We arrived on a Sun. Through the afternoon and evening there was considerable noise from airboats, but once everyone left for the evening, was mostly quiet the rest of our stay. Because it was hunting season there were some early morning launches from the nearby state park boat launch but the noise didn’t last long. If you have your own boat, there is a primitive boat launch from the campsite.

Water birds abound. There were opportunities for hiking/walking across the road from the entrance and to the state park. We enjoyed using the larger shelter for our kitchen.

Ice and supplies are available about miles from the camp, 3 miles east of the turn off.

From the site no less than 6 cell towers are visible. We had a fast 3-4 bars on Verizon.
