“Saturday Night Special”
When the "best" spots are taken, we often find even better spots. Arriving in the area on a warm spring Saturday afternoon, one might expect to find some stiff competition for camping spots. Potholes State Park wasn't even close to working for us. Besides, we were not impressed by the accommodations anyway. Another fail by WSP's in our play book. We pushed on to check out some Compendium reviewed locations down in the actual potholes. No doubt some of them would have been lovely, had they not been crammed full of weekend warriors ready to whoop it up. We spoke to one kid holding a spot for his friends, who said about a dozen people were expected.
Backtracking about half a mile we found our bliss. Solitude, a stunning sunset (something forgone should you opt for lakeside) and a perfect undisturbed night's rest. Check out the photos. We couldn't have been happier.
