Sad as it as some great campsites. Lake is almost half empty.

The website says the campground is open but to call the county office for up to date information. We called, nobody answered, and nobody returned our calls after we left a message.

Hoping this review helps someone, but drove all the way here from Phoenix, just to see a closed sing due to Covid. Ended up finding a spot at show low lake campground. Looks like a really nice spot!!!

We have a 32 foot RV, So when we pulled into this BLM land, we took off our tow vehicle and searched the sides instead of driving our big rig through. We found a perfect site right off the main road. I believe it was site number 10. We stayed here for two days and it was easy to drive in and drive out. Right off a highway with a big restaurant just to the right or left depending upon your direction of travel. Ensure you follow the speed limits nearby because we saw some people getting pulled over by the local police. Very nice and convenient and close to Showlow Arizona.

Camped 10/14/19 (Monday night). We picked site 8 and were able to pull through, but it was a bit tricky due to the trees. Locals were using the boat ramp area to fish and also the site across from us, but it was quiet overall, even being half full with campers. The campground area has a loop through it, and some sites have a "driveway" to them. Some sites are lakeside and have a nice view of the lake. There are a number of pull-thrus; others are back-in.
There is no water pump/spigot here, but the 2 vault toilets were fairly clean and supplied with TP. Sites seemed pretty level and medium to large sized, with sun or dappled sun through the trees. Our site was one without a metal fire ring (others had them), but had a circle of rocks. We picked up some trash at our site.
There's a nice trail from the boat ramp along the reservoir to the other side of the lake where cows roam.

Nice clean site and free for up to 5 days how can you complain? We had a great time the reservoir is beautiful boats with electric motors can use the reservoir.
Host was very nice very helpful during our stay.
Gave a 4stars on noise just because of the weekend traffic but otherwise it was quiet.

Not many sites (around 10), but the setting was nice. I could hardly believe this was a free campground! I got the last space available on a Thursday afternoon in June, but on Saturday there were a few spots open--there seemed to be a lot of people there for just a night or two, and the maximum stay allowed was either 4 or 5 nights. The campsites were shaded by beautiful alligator-bark junipers and pine trees. There were big elk tracks in the mud at the edge of the reservoir, and reportedly a lot of elk in the area, although I didn't see them. Camping was great, except for some of the people. I don't care how well-trained your dog is at home, Put it on a Leash when you go to a campground!!! (Way too many pet dogs running loose over the course of my three day visit!) Plus a bit of noise: one evening there was a loud group camped in the next site over--they seemed nice (although somewhat foul-mouthed), but they had no clue how well voices carry in a campground. The next day it was an RV with a loud generator that ran All. Day. Long. Otherwise fairly peaceful. If your trip takes you there on a Sunday, for church I recommend "The Church" that meets in a formerly-unused building at the High School--genuinely friendly and welcoming people there. The campground gets plenty of day use in addition to campers, especially near the boat ramp. The trail alongside the reservoir is a nice walk or hike. No running water; one trash dumpster; vault toilets.

Designated sites, grills, clean (enough) toilets FREE - what's not to like? Nice views of the lake. We picked up a bit of trash - carry a "picker" with us for that purpose. We have been doing dispersed and remote camping for over 40 years and places are getting harder and harder to come by. If each of us did a little bit to leave a place cleaner than it was when we got there, maybe it would catch on. I read some of the other posts and was a bit concerned, but we had no issues and would definitely recommend it as a convenient stop over, or a quick family get a way.
The price can't be beat!

Local white trash come here and get drunk, get into fights and play loud music all night long. They bring their Pitt Bull dogs here and they bark all day and night. If you choose to camp here sleep with a loaded gun!
