Good overnight after long visit to TRNP. Near highway but pretty quiet. No water, fire pit or bathrooms just lots of open range and hills

Try to NOT get here in darkness.. the place can be tricky.. unless you have been here before..
did a good driving video from exit to cell tower going up in teh open spots that have been used in past. there are appx 7 spots more or less in the first section.. further up it get steep, narrow and no place to stop..
big rigs use the first circle eto left up the hill or chance getting in a tough spot.. large 5th wheels may far better future down the road with some nice spot on the ridge on the right pust the spot on hill on left by elec pole.
follow to see 8 min video of the place from the truck view.. wind can be a bit much but it ND so deal.. the views are eppic, no real road noise, no light pollution for the most part so good star gazing..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ch09ViNBKw
one quick note to big rigs.. AS you come to the right turn look to your left up a bit and see a nice are to back in that is somewhat level for the night.. don't think anyone would bother as that is still part of the grasslands.
PS: there is a killer classic rock station 105 on dial

Located 15 minutes from the entrance of Theodore Roosevelt NP south unit, and along the road from the Petrified Forest Loop. If it’s windy and you’re in a tent, then try to get a campsite that is lower for sure— no wind protection otherwise. Few people when I was there in early October.

This is a beautiful free boondocking area near the South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The roads are all good. When entering the boondocking area, there is the circle to the left which has room for about three rigs. Passing the circle, there is a knoll on the left that has room for a big rig. Continuing on, there is a road on the right leading to a ridge. There is room up on the ridge for six comfortably. Further down the road, there are four more sites on the right side. The last one is at the fence and is gorgeous, but you would have to go through the gate to get turned around. There are no signs on the gate, so there is no problem going through and you can even camp on the other side of the gate as there are a couple of sites and no sign banning camping in the area.
Great base to use for visiting Medora and the National Park. Don't pass up hiking the Petrified Forest trail just north of this area, it is amazing and we saw lots of bison on that trail. Great Starliink speeds.

We arrived on a Friday afternoon and after that things got busy.
People parked where they weren’t supposed to and You need to have a back up plan not trash the area. Then they get closed down.
Some kind of week got in our dogs coat almost impossible to remove, he has long hair. It happened when we were hiking also.
Beautiful scenery and great view if you parked further up on a plateau. If it would have been raining the up road to the plateau on the left would have difficult and a few deep ruts were off to one side.
Walked our dogs up the road to the barbed wire fence.
Many left on Saturday and many came.
People there picking the sugar beets
No west entrance to the highway, you have to go back about one mile and get back on.

First site on the left is the biggest - it’s a circle with room for 3, maybe 4 rigs. Everything else is little sites off to the sides of the road. Well spaced, great views. We got in late the first night and it was very hard to figure out in the dark. We ended up getting all the way up to the top and having to back down when we kit the barbed wire fence. No fun. We headed back to the first big circle site. Night two we ended up at the second to last site (it’s on the right). It has an amazing view with a little private lookout area and a fire ring. It’s insanely nice. A++++

Easy to find off exit 23, gravel/dirt roads are good. First site off to left is large. The next sites are grassy roads off to the side but up on hills with great views. Close to the NP entrance and the town of Medora. 2-3 bars Verizon. Quiet and beautiful night sky.
