We were thrilled when we got a site in Acadia (be warned - you need to be ready to book it the minute the site becomes available) but didn't realize that it is nearly 1 hour from the main portion of Acadia on Mt. Desert Island. After some initial disapointment, we decided it was actually great. We got up early a couple days and drove to Acadia proper and spent the whole day there so it didn't really matter that we were an hour away. Mt. Desert Island was pretty busy and it was sometimes hard to find places to park at trail heads. On Schoodic point, it was much less crowded, but just as lovely. We nightly drove down the loop to see beautiful sunsets. There are bike trails (challenging to bike but great to hike) and hiking trails aplenty. I absoltely loved all the mushrooms that could be seen all around the park. There were not many resturants or stores open in the evening so plan your meals ahead of time. The site itself was peaceful, lovely, and felt fairly private due to the bushes and trees around. All of Acadia is very dog friendly.

Beautiful campground, modern facilities, nice size sites, nice spacing of sites and private. Clean, good solar although the sites have electricity. No generators allowed. Beautiful loop drive an exciting drive up to the top of the mountain (kind of a hidden drive) with a great view. We had Cell service.

The Schoodic Point loop was beautiful and we spent lots of time out exploring. It was a nice pace compared to the main parts of Acadia that tended to be very busy during mid day.
We couldn’t have been happier here and look forward to staying again!

Miles of bikeable/runnable/walkable trails. Well-spaced, large, level, private campsites with 30/50A & Water. A decent dark sky at night for star watching. Placement within the Schoodic Peninsula for easy access to the quieter, calmer, less populated section of Acadia... we loved it here.
An active NPS pass is required to camp here - plus your nightly fees of course. There is a free shuttle bus that runs into Winter Harbor and around the Schoodic NPS loop, offering to stop wherever you need (the shuttle drivers request that you tell them where you want to go!)
We attended nightly ranger talks, sat outside into the evening stargazing, and explored trails and tidepools galore.
Snag a site here - you won't be disappointed!
Verizon cellular service at our site was not usable - although we did not try signal enhancement. We were able to utilize our Starlink service plopped on our roof.

This is a 5 star campground if there ever was one. All great here at Schoodic Woods, beautiful, private pull through sites with wooded strips in between. Easy check-in at the Ranger station. Nice bathrooms but no showers that we could find. Campground roads are well maintained. Schoodic Woods is about an hour drive from the main park at Mt Desert Island, but there is plenty to do here. The best part of the Schoodic Peninsula...NO CROWDS!!
Good hiking on the Schoodic Peninsula. Be sure to check out Schoodic Point at sunset. At low tide you can cross the 1/4 mile land bridge to Little Moose Island and hike there for a few hours. Moose were spotted by others but we didn't see any, no bears at Schoodic. If you drive to Mt. Desert Island to hike get there early, parking is horrendous.
During our time here in early August, there were few mosquitoes or other pests. Others said mosquitoes were bad in July.
Nearest laundry and Walmart is in Ellsworth, 30 minutes away.
We got no AT&T cell service at site B23 but good service at B27, go figure, they are about 100 yards apart.

Loved our stay here. Very spacious sites, easy to navigate with camper. Not very crowded - very private and peaceful. The coastal hike was great just outside the campground.

Was in a tent on at the first of Memorial Day weekend in 2019 with my dog. Were very few people there when I checked in as it was a Thursday I think. Very quiet first night, loved listening to the birds and distant fog horn. Second night more people came in and a big group at the group camp site was too noisy for me but such is life in a campground on a major holiday. I had a great time nonetheless. Weather was typical for Maine in May, cold and wet! But stunning nature. I highly recommend this campground. Go soon before the word gets out. Schoodic is away from the "main" hustle and bustle of Acadia and an hour north. Had fantastic hot shower outside the campground at the little downtown area and then a breakfast to die for for this hungry and cold camper girl! I love Acadia and didn't have enough time there. So, meanwhile I'll dream about Schoodic and Acadia this winter.... while coming up with fun plans for 2020!

Sites are gravel with picnic table and lots of greenery between sites. Park is immaculate. The foliage is beautiful, as is the Ranger Station. If it hadn't been for the torrential rain that went on until about 3pm, we would have experienced more of the park. As it was, we were only able to sneak in a damp walk to Frazer Point. Use your mosquito repellant or don't stop moving. These are bite you through your pants mosquitoes.

At least at this national park they call people that don’t show up. So we where able to stay for 2 nights on Columbus weekend. We had a pull through with some privacy. Had electric and water hook up and there is a dump on the property. There is a Shuttlebus that runs daily to take you around this part of the park free. This park is seasonal. This is the last weekend. WiFi available.

Just a note about the negative review. The National Park website states clearly that all camping is reservation only, that there is no unreserved camping at all, no overnight parking or "out of bounds" camping. This is so clearly stated, I do not see how these campers could have missed it.
Seems like the male employee broke the rules for them, and they knowingly went along with it, and they got by for a couple days until responsible employees discovered this and told them they had to leave. I am sure the responsible employees are fed up with people trying to wheedle them into breaking the rules, especially when co-workers undermine them. Not sure what is rude about telling rule breakers they have to leave.
