This was a good stop to break up our drive from Lake Crescent to Everett. We pulled in early enough to walk the full loop trail (pretty short). East trail has great views of the river. Host was very friendly. Great spot for a quick camping trip/picnic but pretty small park. Site needed just a bit of leveling.

The sun had set and it was a rainy evening. I was desperate to find a camp spot and thankful I found this one. It’s about 12 miles off the main highway. I was able to pick up a first come first serve site on a Saturday night at 7:30 PM. There is a beautiful creek running behind some of the sites. There’s also a walking trail that I was not able to take advantage of because I arrived late and left early. The campground seems to be popular with families, perhaps from local towns in the vicinity. Lots of tent campers. As another review were mentioned some of the sites are uneven but it just depends what part of the campground you end up in.

Clean, quiet and well cared for. Lot of waking trails and easy access to the Sataop River. The bathrooms are rustic, but there are showers with hot water.

Schafer is a 120 acre park 10 miles east of Elma, WA, right on the Satsop River. 5 w/e sites are good size, with sites 4 and 5 in the sun. None are completely level. Our site was very large, under beautiful old growth trees. We fished (and caught) from the park. One older bath house (quarters for shower), one park office with small store (ice, wood). Full time park hosts are very friendly and helpful. Fire ban in effect while we were there. All but U4 and some of the dry sites will accommodate up to 38' rig. Huge group site with separate pit toilets and covered picnic area, volley ball field, and bbqs at the back of the park - tents and small campers only. There were families there who have been coming for multiple generations.
Note that the campground is on the right - don't follow GPS to enter on the left - there are very tight stone pillars with barely 15' wide driveway. Also, your tow vehicle must be attached when you enter the campground or pay $10 fee for separate vehicle. They are very strict about this.
Dogs allowed in camp and on trails and in river, all on leash. Wifi worked well - utility sites are close to office. No cell service. We don't have satellite.
