We went to Sawnee Campground June 2018 with our 179 rPod for the very first time to test the camper, learn the ropes and be close to home because this campground is near our house. We were lucky to book an excellent site on a peninsula that jutted out into Lake Lanier. The site has water and electric. No sewer hook up. The dump station is near the entrance. The camp hosts are great people, we enjoyed a lengthy conversation. The camp ground is shady with lots of trees . We did walk around to see how our site compared to the rest. I have to admit, WE SCORED!!!!. Many of the sites are on a hill. They all looked relatively flat where the campers park then slope down rather steeply to the lake. The bath house was clean but outdated and old. There is a laundry room with one washer and dryer.
The view was stellar!! We slept fair, not used to the humidity inside the camper. It is humid here in Ga in June. The camp ground was quiet however.
The weird thing was that our site had the picnic table, fire ring, and grill on the wrong side. I noticed this with some of the "back in" sites on the peninsula. that being said we had to walk around the camper and down a slope to the table and grill, small inconvenience for the view.

“Beautiful campground next to Lake Lanier!”

If I could, I'd give this campground a 5 stars plus rating because it's one of my favorites!! It's an Army Corps of Engineers campground with partial hookups on Lake Lanier and it's BEAUTIFUL.

The bathrooms/showers were very clean and there's even a small playground for the littles. Camphosts are very friendly and helpful as well.

Lake Lanier has a very interesting history. It's actually a flooded town! During a severe drought season in Georgia several years ago, the water level went down low enough that certain parts of the town, like buildings and a race track became visible. People often scuba dive in the lake to view the remnants of the town.

There's so much to do around there as well! Hiking and biking trails, day use areas, and if you want to do some shopping, Cumming is a really cute small town.

I would definitely go back for another visit!

3 Months On The Road: Recap Of The Campgrounds We've Stayed At

We needed to be near Denver for a week for Bach's work and the closest campground with openings was Cherry Creek State Park. This park is really big and for $30/per day, the RV sites have full hookups...
