“Beautiful place ”

We stayed in the Satterwhite Point area at the JC Cooper campground. Only 10 mins off the interstate.
The lake is beautiful and full of fish. There’s a nice beach and shower house. Peaceful and empty when we were there on a Thursday.
Our campsite was on the water and there were no bugs or mosquitoes. We didn’t want to leave this wonderful place.
Check in was interesting since we didn’t have a reservation. The lady at the gate didn’t know what to do. She told us to call Reserve America. But they cannot do same day reservations.
We talked to the Ranger and he knew what to do. They have a list of campsites that aren’t reserved and you can pay and pick anyone of the open ones.
Cell coverage was spotty. Most of park i only had phone service, no data, on Sprint network.

“Beautiful views and spacious sites”

We have camped here twice recently. We have a pop-up that’s about 25 ft long plus a tow vehicle (SUV). First trip was site 38 and we loved it except for the water hookup being too far away. We had to buy a longer hose and put hose had to go over the driveway of the site next to us. No one was staying on that site while we were there but if they had been, they would have been running over our hose everytime they came or went. The site has electric as well with both 30 amp and 50 amp connections. We really loved the view here and the site was very large. Easy access to the beach/lake.

The second trip we stayed in site 27 but didn’t like it as much. The views are lovely but there’s a steep drop from the site to the beach/water so you really have to go a few campsites down in order to get to the lake. The length of this driveway was very short. We barely fit. The water connection was nearby but not directly next to the site. The sites surrounding 27 were somewhat spacious but we still prefer more privacy than we had at this site.

The bathhouses were mostly clean and climate controlled. The hot water was REALLY hot, so much that we were unable to take a shower in there for fear of burns (literally, it was that hot). Across the street from this campground is the visitor center. The staff was very unfriendly - she acted like we were bothering her when we asked about firewood and also bought a bumper sticker. However it’s worrh checking out because it has a exhibit that’s pretty cool.

Food Lion is about 15 mins away. Walmart, Dollar Tree, Lowe’s and several food places are 20 mins south on I-85 at exit 212. There is a store/gas station about 6-7 mins from the campground, and they have large firewood bundles for $5 each. They also sell propane and of course various food and gas. The man who we encountered there was very nice. We took a driving tour of the Nutbush campground but didn’t care for it as the sites were too close together for our liking.

We will be back to this campground but I would choose site 38 over 27 next time.
