“Not for big rigs”

We have a 37’ 5th wheel. Recreation.gov advertised this site (#5) as a 100’ pull through, with a concrete pad and suitable for 40’ length. Also says water hook-ups. We maneuvered up the narrow road (which turns to gravel the last 8 miles or so) and reached the campground. It was a beautiful place set next to the river. However, there is NO WAY we were getting our rig into that space (or any other space on the grounds). It was shaped like a boomerang. With a tree right in the middle. Unlevel gravel with a steep grade. The camp host was super nice and tried to help accommodate us in a different site, but it just wasn’t going to happen. Beautiful place if you have appropriate equipment. Don’t believe recreation.gov. Was disappointed after driving 6 hours to get there that it wouldn’t work.

“Very pretty and peaceful during the week. ”

We camped here twice in 2017, both times starting on Sunday or Monday for a 3 or 4-night camp-out. We pretty much had the campground to ourselves with maybe one or two other units. People were, however, dropping off campers around Wednesday or Thursday to reserve a spot for the weekend so we assume weekends must be very busy.
Very pretty area with lots of hiking trails up into the Pecos mountains. A river runs along the campground. Dry camping with clean vault toilets scattered throughout the campground. Potable water from spigots scattered throughout the campground was cold and fresh. Both sites we used were relatively level, gravel surface. No host on site during the week, but a camper was there so we assume they are around on the weekends. It’s a small campground with a variety of sites. I’m not sure bigger rigs would want to drive the road into the campground, but we had no trouble with our Chevy avalanche pulling a 22-foot trailer. No cell service, but we camp to get away, so that isn’t an issue for us. Definitely one of our favorite campgrounds in New Mexico.
