I don’t think I would camp here again. It definitely did not feel like we were camping.

Nice campground, busy our first night but emptied out on Sunday and it was almost like having the full campground to ourselves. It was a short walk to the "no dogs allowed" beach. We were able to get a site in the "lower" section where the roads are paved and asphalt pads and lots of trees.
There is another section of the campground, sites 1-35, which are "up the hill". Dirt roads/pads and dusty and not many trees, but larger sites for bigger trailers.
The wifi signal was a little weak and slow, if you need it. No cell signal until we raised our booster and then we could get 2 bars, but with wifi, direct cell wasn't needed, gotta love wifi calling for staying touch.

We have stayed here several times over the years - sometimes with reservations and sometimes just randomly showing up. When we have reserved, the reservation was NOT site specific (don't like that so much). We prefer the sites up on the hill - sites 1 to 35 as many of them have nice views and seem to be more spread out than the lower ones. Often this section is closed though and seems to be more of an overflow. We have had water there off and on - a dump station, had no water and only porta potties - kind of all over the board! Speaking of board, there is a nice boardwalk along the creek to the beach - the beach is not dog friendly. We have seen deer here, raccoons the size of deer and a lot of birds. A great place to base from when exploring this section of coast and / or inland a bit to Paso wineries.

We stayed in site 62, which this time of year is almost 100% in the shade all day. That means that it never warms up in our particular site, and the moist ground never dries out - so there is no grass, just hard packed (thankfully) dirt. Sites around the perimeter have more space. I noted that #82 and #92 looked like good sites - large, sunny with some trees, not too close to bathrooms.
In the days of Covid, it was nice that the bathrooms were private and big enough for mom/dad and the kids to fit in. No sharing with 5 stalls and one sink.
We made a mistake and left our coolers and sealed dog food out, and the racoons got into the dog food and ate it all. Luckily there was a pet store in nearby Cambria.
The sound of the waves was nice. Beach is a short walk away. No dogs allowed on the beach here, but you can go up the road a bit to San Simeon and find a beach that allows dogs.
There was no cell service in the campground, but as soon as you get out to the highway, then you have some.

Victoria and I have fond memories of the town of Cambria located just a few miles from this campsite. We parked in town and walked the streets, doing a little shopping and having a good meal prior to venturing to the campground.
The campground itself is located on the opposite of Highway 1 from the ocean but access is easy under a highway overpass.
We walked the beach and enjoyed a beautiful sunset before spending what became our last night on a two week tour of campgrounds in the central and northern coast of California.
We had no cell service at the campsite but a short walk to the highway underpass by the beach yielded a couple of bars.

We had 1 bar of LTE, 2 if I walked to an adjacent site across the road. Also, the map seems to show off road, back-in parking when actually the parking is on the road with enough room to leave the tow vehicle in front. There are three black boulders to prevent backing onto the dirt that also invite shin scrapes...I did leave some skin on one. It is a hill top and I had to retract the jack almost completely to hit level. I'm not sure how that would look on a longer rig but it seemed a little precarious until I got used to it.
I've van camped here before and would have preferred a site on the lower loop (closer to the beach trail) but was satisfied overall with the upper part. We hiked to checkout Washburn and as others have noted, the cell signal is much better there, if that's important to you.
The camp hosts were super friendly and helpful. Firewood sales open at 4 and the wood bundles were ample, heavy and nicely split.
The camp area is well maintained, bathrooms clean and well kept. During our stay, the quiet times were observed and we had a very enjoyable experience.

We were a bit surprised at the price (35$ with a 7.99$ reservation fee for a tent site) but found the site to be just what we wanted for our time in the area. The campground has plenty of trash and recycling bins, bathrooms, and coin showers. We didn’t realize it when we booked but our site was right next to a trash bin, so our first night we had some raccoons wander by to check it out. The second night we didn’t see them come.
The campground itself is minutes from the adorabotown of Cambria which has a bunch of restaurants if you aren’t in the mood to cook. It’s also very close to the Elephant Seal Rookery, it was really neat to go and hang out there for a bit. You can also hear the ocean at night if you’re on that end of the campground, it was so relaxing to fall asleep to!
Overall, we’d definitely come back but we’d want to be in a site a bit further from the trash bins.

Not our first time here. Paved sites. No hook ups but has water station and a dump site. Stayed in the lower camp. Little to no cell service. Fire pits and tables. Bath rooms and coin opp showers. Bring quarters. Quiet enough at night to hear the waves crash. Some road noise during the day.

As others have said, this is a great place, close to the ocean. Sites are level and decent sized. Some are open to the sunlight and others under the trees, so take your pick. Generator times are weird, 10-8. Only had cell service with the booster.
