“Water, were are Thou?”

Reviewed Feb 01, 2019

Are are several campgrounds in this park. The Lakeview campground is close to the lake. We stayed at the North Concho Campground, which had great hiking, but no access to the lake. BEWARE: This Lake is currently at low levels, not dry, but you'll hike to the lake. In summer, expect West Texas heat, but fall and weather are great. ... more

Just stayed here overnight on way to west Texas, but really enjoyed the area. Camped in the South Side camping area, water and electric only, with covered picnic table. Flat area up on a ridge, which turned out to be a good choice a we experienced flooding rains that prevented us from leaving the park in the evening. Liked the "metal b... more

“Where's the lake?”

Reviewed Apr 05, 2018

The spaces are mostly flat and all have a fire pit and concrete picnic table under a canopy. Unfortunately The lake is almost gone so no fishing to speak of. Due to a multi-year lack of rain the entire area is suffering and the trees are mostly gone. The campsite does have WiFi so that is a plus.

“Spacious sites”

Reviewed Mar 08, 2018

We enjoyed this campground as a base to see San Angelo and to kick off our 2 month tour of Texas. The negatives were no grass for my dog, showers were small, lots of stickers and some skunks. Positives were site was spacious, Park was quiet and is near San Angelo. The historic part of San Angelo was neat. The lake is low but offered bi... more

In November of 2017 we spent one day camped at San Angelo State Park. This huge Texas State Park is built on the banks of the O.C. Fisher Reservoir and the Concho River, near San Angelo. At the time of our visit the lake was so low access to the water was almost impossible! While camping at San Angelo State Park we had the opportunity ... more

“A very quiet state park in the middle of Texas”

Reviewed Dec 13, 2017

We only stayed here overnight on a trip across Texas but we found this to be a delightful and VERY quiet place to spend a night. I recommend this place without hesitation. The campsites are large and spread far apart so the lack of vegetation between sites is not an issue. The elecltric and water worked very well. Verizon interne... more

“Great views of the lake (even if the water level is very low)”

This is a really pretty park, with a lot of the sites having great views of what was left of the lake, or just of the rolling hills. Super quiet and relaxing place to spend a week. “Quiet State Park, but close to town”

Reviewed Jan 25, 2017

San Angelo State Park is very close to the city of San Angelo, but it doesn't feel that way. There is a lake at the Park, and 40 camping spots with water and electric hookups. Most sites have a covered picnic table and fire ring. Sites are gravel, and not a lot of trees. We did not use any bath facilities, but they are available. ... more

I've been to several state parks in the great state of Texas...this isn't one of the shining examples of campgrounds therein. We had the place almost entirely to ourselves, so that was great. Scenery is nice. Sites are pretty spread out. Hawks, wild turkeys and mule deer are abundant. But the biggest reason for my lower rating ... more

This park was once around a lake that is now dry. Can only imagine how lovely it once was, and bustling with activity.
