Overall Rating

The rating refers to camping only. The day use facilities may be rated higher, but we didn't stay.

Do not go here if you are planning to camp with an RV-not even a small one. Tent camping is walk-in. If you are tent camping follow the updates on the Friends of Salt Springs State Park before you go. Better yet, call or email them!

There is no State funding for this State Park: all volunteers or donated dollars.
The Pennsylvania Dept of Conservation and Natural Resources has minimal information and refers visitors to "The Friends".

When we arrived at dusk it was unclear where the access was. The signage is very poor. We first stopped at the old homestead (which seems to be the Park check-in) near the picnic area where there was one car in the parking lot and a couple (who seemed to be homeless) who were using the restroom to change. A hundred yards back down the road and on the opposite side we found Campground Road (again poorly marked) which led us past some fallen down buildings to a washed out area which prevented us from driving or walking any further. Apparently there are some hike-in tent sites but no RV sites even for our little teardrop. Since the August 2018 flooding, five of the eight campsites and one of the three cabins are no longer usable. We never saw the restroom with composting toilets. We don’t require much and have done some dry camping but for camping, this park is depressing to the point of being a little scary.
