“Beautiful!”

Reviewed Apr 03, 2018

I didn't have a problem with cleanliness when I stayed, and I would recommend getting there early as spots seemed to fill. Beautiful spot right under the mountain, and close to the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Don't forget to look up when the sun goes down.

“Sleep at the foot of the mountains!”

Reviewed Nov 04, 2017

What a great spot. The road getting in was a bit washboard but we took it slow and did just fine. Wide open area with great 360 degree view. There unfortunately was trash all over. We did our best to pick up around us but....come on people!!! Anyways Zeus loved it too. Would absolutely recommend this spot!

“One of our favorite Boondocking spots yet! ”

Reviewed Oct 19, 2017

Lovely little secluded spot with a view of the mountains. We stopped at the first pull off (which already had a fire pit from a previous camper), but a couple others who came after us found spots a bit down the road. Our dogs loved the chance to run around and explore! We loved it so much we recommended the spot to our friends who were... more

“BLM campsites outside Alamosa and Great Sand Dunes”

Reviewed Sep 25, 2017

Overall Rating

There are a few sites on the road up the mountain. It is a dirt road that gets pretty rough for a big rig about 1.5- 2 miles up. If you're tent camping with a 4x4 you'll make it farther up the road than a big RV. There are several pull offs on the road large enough for big rigs. They are pretty level with nice views. We shared our big ... more

“Solid site with great mountain/valley views”

Reviewed Aug 20, 2017

Overall Rating

There are plenty of sites to stay for FREE. Camper trailers would probably do best on the plains as the 4x4 trail gets pretty rough and travel up the mountain is only accessible with high clearance off road vehicles. Although a truck camper did go farther up the road than I did. Tent camping is pretty good all over. A descent amount of... more

“Beautiful FREE Camping Near Great Sand Dunes”

Reviewed Jul 18, 2017

Overall Rating

Sacred White Shell Mountain is a beautiful BLM site located 8 miles south of Great Sand Dunes National Park. The road in is dirt, but should be drivable for all sizes of RVs. There are two main camping flats large enough for multiple rigs - the first one is located a half a mile from the entrance. The second is about a quarter of a ... more
