We have 5 young children…is the beach too far or are the roads too busy to walk straight from the campsite?

It's almost exactly 1/2 mile from the entrance of the campground to the entrance to the beach at Pacific and Dawes. There is a separated path which crosses under the freeway, and a crosswalk across Hemlock. It's as easy as can be. Only question is whether 1/2 mile is too far for your littles. Bonus points for stopping at the Sleepy Monk for a snack and coffee 😁

The walk is a few blocks. Streets were not too busy but I was there in October. There is an underpass with sidewalk so you do not need to cross highway. The local bus does stop at the entrance to the camp and is a great way to get around if you do not have a car.

We’d say it’s about a 20 minute walk from your campsite to the nearest beach access. As others have mentioned, turn right out of the RV park and then left onto the sidewalk that follows the street under Hwy. 101 (no need to cross the highway). Follow that straight west into town. At the crosswalk across from Pelican Brewing, go straight. Walk along the path just north of the Hallmark Resort’s cute dog park. At the west end of the park, the path turns right onto a grassy right-of-way that becomes an alley. Take the first left onto a footpath and you’ll be at the beach in one block. We love this walk. If it’s too far for your littles, consider driving to the Pelican/Hallmark intersection, turning right, and turning left onto Washington and parking along the street. Easy beach access from there along Ocean St.
