I hate to be so naive but I saw pictures of a couple gators, do I have to be concerned if I camp on Rutherford Beach?

What is the max stay time here? Is it 14 days like most other dispersed camping that I see in other states? Thanks!

If your rig or tent is not tight, good luck sleeping. Did not cool off enough and no wind to drive the little flying critters to hiding.

Saturday night in April with about a dozen campers and room for probably 50 more with out being crowded at all. Beach road firm and most any rig in and out. Pulled a 20 foot bumper pull camper with 1 ton P/U and did all in 2 wheel drive. Great view from rig, and quiet night. Porta Jon’s clean and well serviced. Great for everything from bigger rigs to car/tent camping.

Great location and the stars at night are some of the best I have seen anywhere. The wind was terrible and caused us to leave a day early. I can not deduct for wind at the beach and we would go back. Where we parked was a long way from portapotties but they were clean.

Seemingly miles from anywhere, this is a rare find as boondocking in general, not to mention beach boondocking, is hard to come by east of the Rockies. Bring your provisions, for there's no supermarket this side of Lake Charles. The sand is firm enough to support any rig, including a full-on tour bus from Pennsylvania (not an RV) that we observed on the beach. During our November visit the mosquitoes were inconsequential:

The beach itself is clean, but you are not allowed to swim due to RIP tides. The cell service is amazing. Who wouldn’t like to have the ocean outside their front door?

Hard sand, lots of big rigs on the beach. The ferry crossing West of here wasn’t a problem for our truck camper and toad. We are less than 40’. I understand low clearance or excess of 50’ gets you turned around.

Got here in our 32' motorhome in middle of the week. Already a few on beach camping. Tons of shells. Beach was pretty clean. Met some great people and enjoyed everyone we met. Only one down fall. I have never in my life seen so many mosquitoes. We will come back again and again. There is trash bins and portapotties and 2 showers.

Good news is you can now drive on the beach better as it was iffy before. They have put up rock barriers. There is a couple porta potties when you drive in. Small trash bins. No tables, no shade, not sure on water. I'm not sure on camping as I didn't see anyone but it was July in Louisiana so I'm not surprised. I am going back this week as I love to drive my jeep on the beach.

Stayed in the beginning of June. It was pretty windy but we set up the tent just fine, and had no trouble driving over the sand in a two wheel drive sedan. There were others camping but tons of space to spread out so it still felt private. Flies, sand fleas, and other bugs were pretty normal at first but it rained a bit in the area the day before we left and the mosquitoes were insane that night. Seriously worse than anything I've experienced before. There is a sheriff that patrols regularly.

There are obviously bugs including mosquitoes and yellow flies.
Overall, a lovely camping experience for the price! Only thing that would have made it better would be if they added actual restrooms and showers.
