Rustler Park is a great place to camp. The camp ground is well setup for family with lots of room. There are several dispersed camp areas before the Park if that is what you desire.
One such area is just west of Rustler Park. It is called Barfoot Pass. Large dispersed camp area with great hiking and camping. Two wheel drive can get through here unless it’s the rainy season than a 4x4 is helpful but use good judgement.
This area was almost untouched in recent fires so the trees and natural beauty is great. The area is covered with bio diversity but tread lightly.
One of the many cool tidbits is that this area was used as a summer boy scout camp way back in the day. It is no longer active but the remains are stil there. One such remains is an old chapel built by the Kiwanis club of Douglas in 1962.
It still stands and is a small hike from the old scout camp.

Looks like this is now a paid campground - $8-10 a night.
