Logan Campground

We've spent quite a bit of time in NM State Parks and have been impressed... until now. We meeting friends in a couple of weeks, so we made this a stopover to burn time. But we won't stop here on our way back. The signage and maps for the loops are terrible. We finally found Logan loop at the 3rd entrance.
No dump station in Logan loop. We have to drive 2.5 miles back to the other loop.
It's early September and only one camp host, 2.5 miles away. Maybe that's why the weeds next to the driveway are so high. Our spot wasn't very level, used 3 blocks on the passenger side. Since this is also the side the door is on, makes it a bit of a climb for this short girl!
No shelter on this site, just the picnic table and a medium size tree.
On the plus side, Verizon is 3 bars without being boosted on a Friday afternoon and the lake is beautiful, our site has a partial view

High desert, wide open campground that is susceptible to high wind. Picnic table with grill and canopy are provided. Pull-through sites are barely off the loop road. Nice view of the lake from our site but no shade other than at the picnic table. Due to lake access, this campground is used heavily by people with boats which created a lot of traffic in the loop with people coming and going. Heavy use and wind may be the reason for trash spread across the area - I picked up half a shopping bag of litter from our site. Storms passed through during our stay that caused a power outage for a couple hours. Heavy rain created puddles around the sites but dried up overnight. Cell signal showed 3 bars but was very slow, probably due to high traffic on the tower over the weekend. TV signal was marginal which made it difficult to monitor the approaching storms. Dump station is a couple miles away at the Zia and Yucca campground area. Minimal services available in the area and a long drive from the interstate. Come prepared for self-sufficiency.

I have to say I found the maps on the website a bit confusing. Made my online reservation okay (recommended). When I arrived in the area for my first time, it was a bit confusing as to where to go, poor signage. In the campgrounds I could not find a camp host at home. Finally a Ranger arrived at the Visitors Center, not staffed very well. Highly recommend getting a campsite with a covered picnic table! Cement picnic tables absorb sun all day and are hot! Purchased Viasat WiFi as my Verizon MiFi didn’t work.
Love the Lake and hiking would love to come back and get a different campsite!

There are several separate CGs at Ute Lake. We stayed in Logan CG site 23, which was nearly perfectly level, for 5 days. There is no dump station at the Logan CG, the only dump station is near the main office, several miles back down the road. The restrooms were closed while we were here - not sure if that is seasonal or due to COVID. I did have to pick up 7 or 8 large, albeit old, piles of dog feces and a broken beer bottle right in the site and around the picnic table. I shouldn’t have to do that, but some people are just inconsiderate and nasty. The CG has is a trailhead for the 2.4 mile park nature walk. It’s a nice trail, with several lake viewing areas along it. Our dog didn’t encounter too many sand burrs on the trail, but be advised, the evil little things are everywhere else and imbed themselves in everything. The CG has fee for service WiFi, which is fairly pricey (e.g. 3-day unlimited, one device for $20, 5 GB and 3 devices for $30, etc.). They also offer 30 minutes per day for free, but I couldn’t get but a few KB/s on it. I didn’t buy the service, so I’m not sure how fast the paid service is. AT&T coverage was really good, with 4 Bars of LTE service and speeds up to 27 MB/s. Since there are few trees, satellite coverage is not an issue, so we didn’t try to get any OTA channels.

There is a small grocery in Logan, but their selection is limited.
