Rocky Springs Campground

We arrived on a Tuesday afternoon and were supposed to see how many campers there already were. This is a very popular place. There were a couple open spots to choose from.
Each place has a level asphalt pad for parking, a picnic table, (though these are in terrible shape with the wood being rough and moldy.) a grill and fireplace. There are bathrooms as well.
No water or electric, but hey! It's free!
There were lots of mosquitos and spiders, which is to be expected.

I was a little apprehensive about campsite availability on a weekend. Arrived about 1:30PM on Friday October 7, 2022, plenty of room. It did start filling up later that afternoon, but never completely filled.

Firewood was available but you had to work for it.

Stayed at a pull through site that was level side to side, almost level front to rear, near the entrance on the left as you pull in.

Park was clean, restrooms flush toilets and clean.

A little loud, but it was a happy loud. Could not hear noise from inside trailer with a fan on.

Good cell service with ATT, my phone doesn't have bars that are clear.

I arrived late on a Saturday afternoon. Got a great back in site that was very level. Walked around after setting up. The campground was full but peaceful and quiet. So many people seemed to be enjoying themselves. Many traveling the Trace or the South in general. Enjoyed the walk to the church and abandoned town. Very quiet location. I would have stayed a second night here but I was having issues with the refrigerator so I left earlier than I would have liked. Hope to make it back one day.

It was very wet when we were there. Late winter and rain left most of the campground swampy and muddy. The restrooms were newer but no water to the sinks, this may be due to the time of the year. There are about 21 Sites paved of varying lengths. The second set of restrooms are boarded up (awaiting demolition?).
Over-nighting on the Trace, this will serve you.

Camped for three days at site 15 at Rocky Springs Campground. Dry camping only, no hookups, no dump station.

Site 15 has a huge grass area next to it with a table, fire ring, and BBQ grill. Lots of room to bring a big family. Several nice trails to hike. Camp ground has a decent bathroom (flush toilets) on the entrance side. The bathroom on the far side is old and long closed, not useable.

Historical Rocky Springs is not far away, you can hike or drive to it. Not a lot remains of the old city, a few safes (yes safes!), cisterns, the old church (you can walk through it/still ocasional used) and an old cemetery.

Verizon service was spotty, mostly 1 bar of "extended" (eg old school, no data) connection. Once in a while you could get a very week 1 bar of 4g. Basically expect no data if you have Verizon. A good mobile phone booster may make data useable.

The roads and sites were paved and pretty level side to side. There are pull throughs and back-ins and each site has a picnic table, fire ring, and grill. We didn't use the bathrooms, but only one building is open (it seems that it's been like this for a while). We arrived on a rainy Sunday afternoon on Thanksgiving weekend and most of the spots were available. When it cleared up the next few days, we hiked the Trace and to old Rocky springs. It is beautiful. Keep in mind that there is ZERO cell reception whatsoever.
