Robbers Cave State Park

Based on previous reviews I made a reservation in the Old Circle campground. Upon arrival to our site (37), our neighbors appeared to have been living there for weeks with garbage and debris strewn all over their site. They did not give us a warm fuzzy so we proceeded to the park office to see if a change could be made. Granted this was the start of a busy weekend so the staff was swamped. However a nice lady indicated we could have a spot (16) in the Equestrian Campground if we wanted it. That worked out much better and even though it was packed over the weekend it became a ghost town by Sunday.
Hike up to Robbers Cave was a fun scramble and we enjoyed kayaking on Lake Carlton and Lake Wallace.
No check in for camping, you just go straight to your site. Saw no evidence of hosts but park rangers drove around on occasion. You can tell they have put some money into the park. I think if we had come during the week we may have had a different experience but as it stands I doubt we would come back.

We camped at LWW and it was okay. Very small lake. Sites 1 and 2 are right near the boat ramp. The other sites are close to each other, but a little more scenic.

The overall park is pretty decent. Nice big lake in the main area where folks can play cornhole, putt putt golf, paddle board, etc. Bathrooms leave a lot to be desired everywhere except for the horse camp. Those bathrooms have a/c and are pretty nice. Showers are nice and hot.

It was a bit spendy for a primitive site. It was 18 for the site, 16 for an additional tent and 10 for an additional vehicle.

Very pretty campground although just know there are NO bathrooms in this loop. Three trailheads lead out of the campground and it is very pretty. It was a light weekend so we didn’t have a lot of ATV noise at all. We did have road noise. They really need to work on the loop road as it’s very wash board and washed out. The campground is all gravel the site are relatively level. Electric and water, no sewer. It’s still beautiful and we had a great time over the weekend!

No check-in with reservation. Use the parking app to register your car or truck. Full hook up sites on the lower level of Old Circle, the rest are 30A and water. Utilities worked well.

Pros: Relatively private sites, some pull thrus. Wilburton is 5 miles down Hwy 2, where there are stores and restaurants. Main bathroom was adequate with private showers. Lots of hiking in the park. Crowded on weekends, deserted during the week. No highway or neighbor noise.

Cons: Somewhat off the beaten path. Not much grass, mostly rocks and pine straw.

AT&T cell service was OK, 4 bars of 4G LTE. We streamed Hulu and Netflix without a booster. Got a few local HD V channels.

Third Fall trip for us to Robber’s Cave and 6th trip in 2 years. We love the fabulous hiking of all skill levels and the peacefulness of the campground. We have always stayed in Old Circle and this trip was no different. Staff (gift shop, office and rangers) are always very nice and helpful. The new lodge/office has a spectacular view and is a must see. We were sad to see that the restaurant was closed already and even more sad to hear why, greed! Some sites can get a bit muddy when it rains and site 25 has a large drop off where trailer stairs come down (we were able to fold down our steps but just had to be aware). This trip we were in site 27, which is a pull-through with lots of space (our favorite site yet and FHU).

We camped here in October 2021, absolutely beautiful and such a quiet, peaceful place. We stayed in the Whispering Pines loop which is right next to the Old Circle loop. Most in Whispering Pines are full hook ups and in the Old Circle they have water and electric. The sites are close enough to the dump station you could easily use a portable waste tank if you need to. There are areas you can ride your bike, hiking and you can rent a canoe for the small lake. We will definitely be returning but will probably choose the Old Circle because we liked those sites better, a little more in the woods than Whispering Pines. If you are traveling with a tenter, Old Circle loop has more sites with room for a tent, not so much in Whispering Pines.

We had partial hookup, no sewer. Power and water functioned normally with no issues. The restroom and shower were okay. Childish vandals did clog the toilets two nights in a row. We had our dog and so did at least half of the other campers on the the same loop as us (Old Loop). The campers next to us had three dogs and they let their dogs crap all over. When they left Sunday afternoon it was good to get a break from them. It’s a nice park and they’re currently working on several projects. New restrooms and showers are past due. It is a beautiful state park and we plan to return in the future.

We camped in pine trails #7 and it was a muddy mess the entire weekend unfortunately. It was the ATV campground which we knew, so it was a bit loud. Also lots of hwy noise at our site. The sites are all gravel and dirt. The other loops of whispering pines and old circle are concrete. The actual amenities at the park and the trails were well kept and easily accessible.
