Riverside Campground

This place is a hidden gem! It was clean and by a river and a biking/hiking trail. We rode our bikes along the river and through Scott’s Bluff, a Midwestern town bypassed by time. Maybe it is part of an Einsteinium relativity experiment, but I digress. We had water and electric for $20/night. And the actual Scott’s Bluff, an 800 foot rise, was about 5 miles away. The restrooms were older and a little worn, but everything worked and was clean. We thought it was fine, especially for the price!

Our experience here was awful. The GPS thinks there is a different road to get in and there should be. Our truck and camper rocked so bad due to the 6-8” potholes on a section of the dirt road. The rest of the road was washboard. The day after we arrived, they graded the road. We called the office to make sure they would continue to grade it but we were not given a great response. The camp host is less than engaged. She hadn’t updated the board prior to our check in and we could not get the email open. She was not very responsive during the check in nor when we expressed our concern about the road.

The bathrooms are pretty rough. The weeds, as there is no grass, we’re 12” high at least. Gravel site and full hook ups.

Do yourself a favor. Check out Robidoux campground only 4 miles away and stay there or move on to a different place. This is one of the worst places we have ever been to.

We had made our reservations online the day before, long day driving we pull up and someone is in our spot. I go speak with campground host and she apologized and said the gentleman would not move and was rude even though she told him that spot was taken, no biggie she gave us another spot.
Level dirt sites, no grass just weeds. They have bathrooms and showers we didn’t use, free WiFi, picnic table at site. No trees or shade.
This is a state park but seems like no one is coming to take care of it alot the areas have big tumbleweeds growing, could be better.
There is some train noise but faint.

2021 camp hosts were super nice. Delivered us free firewood. The place was kept up. Train noise was not horrible and every site had a fire ring. Playground for kids and a bike path by the river was wonderful. Our kids had a great time scootering on the path. Looked like some of the path was recently poured. It would be great for dog walking and morning exercise. Negative would be that there is not many trees and wasn’t the prettiest site.

Open May 1 – October 1. Got the second to last site on a Wednesday in July (you can reserve sites after the campground opens on May 1). We chose this campground for its proximity to Scottsbluff. Although there is a tent site area, the campground was filled mostly with large RVs. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming and even though it was not a large campground, the host escorted us to our site. He offered several times to deliver firewood to us if we wanted. Reasonable cost for sites ($10 tent camping, $20 water and electric, $25 for full hook-up). Best sites are the ones at the end of the rows as they have a nice patch of lawn. Alcoholic beverages are permitted but must be consumed inside your rig/tent. WiFi is available but not a strong signal; using our own data worked much better. Restrooms were reasonably clean (accessed via a code) and there are showers. This campground is located within a city park and there are other facilities (fitness trail, dog park, and supposedly a zoo). I did a little exploring but rain was imminent so I didn’t wander far, however, the facilities outside the campground looked like they could have used a little TLC. Of course, there is a nearby train!
