We came in from the west. Last year the road to the east side of the gorge was blocked. We didn’t look this year.
We loved this spot. Great views. Nice and quiet.

We came in from the west. Turned down the John Dunn Bridge rd and followed that past the Cam de Lovato rd straight down and found a place overlooking the gorge. SUPER windy and we ended up tying the tent to the truck. Started raining about 3am until 730 am. The road out was perfectly fine even after all the rain. Absolutely would stay ... more

Views are amazing. Wanted to walk to the hot springs but wasn’t sure how to get there. Not another person in sight

I stayed on the Taos plateau side. Wonderful and almost no people. You can get to the same area on highway 522 to get to the canyon, or enter from highway 64 (also called John Dunn Bridge Road) and go through the plateau. Quite a few turnarounds on the plateaus with fire pits and almost no one stays on that side. One of the best night ... more

There are a few large spots near the edge of the canyon with amazing views. As previously mentioned, you cannot access from the east where the bridge is. The road from the west is a bit bumpy, but there were no large ruts or anything like that. 4 bars of Verizon LTE.

We arrived July 2 and there was no one around! Cool nights, but will warm up quickly.
Do not try to access via the Dunn bridge. The switch backs are closed and have been for a while. Make sure to enter from the west.

This is about 4 miles of Hwy 64. Do not try to reach it via the John Dunn bridge because the road is closed passed the bridge. Great view to the mountains and the rio grande below.

“Closed”
noted 4/21/2023
Doesn’t say why, doesn’t say how long. BUT it does say the fine is $250 if you breach the rope.
There was like 7 papers stapled over top of each other of the closure so it’s probably been closed a while.
It was a difficult drive there with our 25ft rig towing our car on a dolly. And very difficult to try to turn around. There is a sign that says ‘Detour’
There is no detour. We got caught up on some very nasty roads.
