THE GOOD - This campground is part of the Colorado State Park system. There are only a few campsites and #3 is on the river and plenty long enough for my 5th wheel and truck. I loved sitting outside with a fire in the cool mornings and grilling as the sunset over the foothills. The campsite is newer, level, and has plenty of space to sprawl out and relax.
THE BAD - The price!! 28.00 a night and 9.00 extra for my tow vehicle. Really? The state needs to rethink the cost because there's no water or trash collection. Forget a dump station anywhere in the Headwaters State Park campgrounds. All the headwater campgrounds are spread out along HWY 50 so there's no camp host or anyone overseeing campers driving in at dark and leaving early morning. I believe most campers didn't pay during my time here. During the day, the traffic is very loud on the HWY and people are stopping to use the restrooms so there is gravel dust non-stop. Little traffic at night. There is a boat launch which is an awesome feature, but it also brings a lot of people into the small camping area. Lastly, cell reception is just OK if you have a cell booster. AT&T and Verizon are acceptable. No T-Mobile.

Dry camping only. No trash pickup. True it’s right by the road but the river and natural landscape is great. Verizon 1 bar still worked good enough to play Pokemon Go. There is a stop at the campground. There are only 6 or 7 sites here but the numbers start at 1200. It was a little hard to find but using a couple of different camping apps helped. It’s about 10 miles Southeast of Salida on hwy 50.

This is a great spot to stay. By the small highway 50 but not to bad on noise. I was on my way home from Salida and didn't feel like driving the rest of the way.

Very nice sites. Flat and well spaced out. You can cast your rod from the picnic bench to the river! Only down side is the sites are only about 50 yards from Hwy 50. There is not much traffic, but you will hear every truck that goes by.
