What they don't tell you on the website before you arrive:
1) There is no one to check you in if you arrive after 8 PM. You cannot arrive to the campground after 9 PM. This means if you arrive after 8 PM but before 9 PM, you have no idea where any of the facilities are that you are paying for if you don't walk the 25 -75 yards to try to find them before it gets dark. They are not labeled.
2) They charge $15 for each car over the single car or RV you drove in with, and $8/per adult person per night for each adult over 2 adults allotted for each site.
3) There are stinging nettles lined around many of the camp sites. To walk between the tent sites and the RV sites or to the bathrooms, you have to walk through stinging nettles. Three of the 7 adults in the two sites we were assigned had experienced nettle burns within 2 hours of arriving. My tent had to be placed 3 feet from the stinging nettles surrounding the site....be wary if you have to get up in the middle of the night! Important if they have not told you where the facilities are yet.
3) The RV sites are very tight, and the tent sites next to them are extremely small and are not level.
4) The access to the lake is convenient, but is it is a steep hill to walk to get to the lake, and there is only about 20 feet of clear shoreline access.
5) I could get Verizon two bar cell service only at the entrance to the campground.

This place has pros and cons. If you camp in the upper area near the office, it's a nice place, as previously reviewed. Nice sites, full hookups, volleyball and nice playground. Flush toilet at the office, though the shower doesn't have a fan, vent or bench. Clean sites, and garbage and vault toilets were emptied regularly. The owner was nice, though hard to reach in the off season. The "less than wonderful" area is beyond the playground area. The website and map do not indicate that the road past the playground, toward the lake, is a steep, deeply rutted, gravel downhill road. Teeth-jarring! We were NOT told that it would not be advisable to bring an RV down there to our site. (We wanted a ite near the cabins, where another member of our party was staying.) Every car all weekend would skid as they tried to climb back up the road. We had a good time, but we will not return due to the reasons mentioned. Stay in the RV area if you are an RV-er!

Grabbed a pull through site on a lightly attended weekend. The pull through was stated to be 50ft but was much closer to 80ft. The sites in the older area near the lake have water and electric but not sewer (there is a dump station on your way out). The sites had old trees that were casting some nice shade over the camping area. The camp sites are adjacent to a nature buffer area (low grasses) so you end up with a large area that is all your own with your neighbors a good distance away.
The only large negative about the campground, is that the lake level was lowered about 30 feet. This means all the beach area is now high and dry. Sure you can get into the lake but you will need to go across deep mud to get there. Sticks and stumps litter the now exposed shore line (they were under 30ft of water) and it is pretty darn easy to have a kid stub a toe or in one case get cut on unseen things just under the mud.
Talking with the park folks, they were petitioning to be able to bring a new groomed beach down to the new water level. If they can get this approved, it will be a 5 star park for sure.

No 50 amp sites but we did good with only 30 and no sewer for a week. Very nicely natural landscaping that they keep up really well. Bath house we didn’t use but I know there is one on the property. Have small cabins for rent near water. The owners and staff are very nice and helpful. This is a little gem if you want to get away from the rat race. Limited cell coverage. No WiFi. I have an I phone with Verizon service and had a few bars on extended service. Still I would come back here because it’s beautiful and quiet. Well when the festival was over. We had a wonderful time. You must come when you are in the area.
Sotheresthat would stay here again

We were at Riff Lake Campground today (Sept. 12, 2021) and they have put in a paved road down to the lower section. It is still steep but no gravel or potholes. They are doing improvements!
