I found the paved road to be passable. Not the best road I've been on, nor the worst. It's not going to get any awards for being smooth, if you know what I mean. Watch your speed, because the campground is on the left as you cross the cattle guard. The dirt roads in the campground are suffering from a bit of rain and washout and could stand some attention.
Like most NFS campgrounds, you pay $22 a night for basically a spot to put your trailer. Provided services are a pit toilet, picnic table in need of painting, and dumpsters for trash.
Sites were clean. Vegetation was clear enough to allow you to get back to nature. The area was incredibly quiet, and a very nice reprieve from our night in the Walmart parking lot in Gillette. We only had occasional noise from vehicles coming down the road and hitting the cattle guard pretty fast.

Beautiful, clean, quiet campground tucked into the trees. Lots of hiking, biking, and some OHV close. Sites are not the most level but can make it work. Some sites can fit up to a 40’ RV or trailer, while other sites are smaller. Front half of campground is reservation and back half is first come first serve. Would stay here again!

We were able to drive both loops no problem, had our pick of a few sites that would accommodate our size, ended up in site 7 which we had no trouble leveling in. Only downside was the site had some trash and dog poop, which we had to clean up… overall very nice, in the pines.

Smaller campground and best for smaller trailers; not many sites will allow staying hitched. That said, we prefer smaller campgrounds that don't typically provide hook ups. Will stay again during future when passing through the Black Hills. We did hear and see some OHV's, but that didn't bother us.

I don't think there was a level spot in the joint. Something that nobody has mentioned is plan to unhook your rig if you've got a towable as that is clearly not included in the site size

Spent a week here as a base for several hikes and to visit the devils tower national monument. Quietish campground. We were here during Sturgis bike Rally so we had bikes traveling the road during the day. The host was friendly and had an ample firewood supply if needed. Small campground. 24 sites. No hookups. Water spigots at a few locations in the campground. Little pricey for what it is but a good location. Pit toilets could use a little love. But it’s a pit toilet. All in all I would stay again. Several trailheads within a hundred yards of the campground. Fire watch lookout tower about 5 minutes up the road was interesting. Sign said it was still closed due to Covid. But it is still a manned tower. That was pretty cool. I’d recommend for a night or two.

Rustic sites. Well spaced. Vault toilet. Site level for camper. Half are fcfs. Others reservable. Verizon cell works great. Always a plus. Sundance town only a few miles. Had great pizza ar the cowgirl pizza and laundry. Easy access off of 90 int. Dumpster was full.
