I've camped here 6 times in the past 2 years (2022 2023) at several sites ( 15, 18, 23, twice, 24, 31). Rangers are very friendly and informative. Be "Bear aware".....never saw one, but........ A fire ring is provided, but there is no picnic table. I will continue to camp here for years to come.

Stayed 2 nights at different sites 17 & 31. Most were full on July 4th week, and had to get in early to find anything open. Had 0-3 bars on Verizon with our cell phone booster, and the signal would drift in and out. Most sites were just off road, but some are back a bit for added privacy. Some sites are not more than parking space for a car or 2, with a tent area beyond downed logs or stones. Some sites big enough for 2-3 full sized RVs for a group gathering. Don’t tell anyone else about this area so it doesn’t get overcrowded. Trailheads in the area for hiking and biking.

My partner and I arrived right after sunset so it was a little hard to see some spots. We traveled down about a mile or two before seeing a little turn around spot that was perfect for our camper and Jeep to swing around and park in. 10/10 will go back again. I love that the area is camper friendly.

I don't think this area is quite as scenic as other areas of Colorado, such as the San Juans or Crested Butte, but this is an easy access area not far from the Denver metro area (less than 1.5 hours) and the beginning of the Colorado Trail (also less than 1.5 hours.)
Pros:
1. Wide dirt/gravel road that any low clearance car can drive on. Also easy access for trailers.
2. Many campsites, at least 25-30 some sites.
3. Vault toilets or portapotties every 3-5 or so miles.
4. Close proximity to Denver and Segment 1&2 of the CT.
5. Many trails available to explore.
Cons:
1. Heavily trafficked, causing fairly aggressive washerboards on roads, especially after rain.
2. Lots of people!! We arrived June 29, a Wednesday, around 9 pm. Even with MANY campsites, all but one was taken. And we drove alllllll they way to the end until the campsites stopped and the road diverged towards Bailey.
3. Some campsites feel surprisingly private from neighboring sites. But many sites are adjacent to the dirt road and quite visible to passing traffic and neighbors.
Again, I wouldn't pick this area to find serene peace and privacy, but it is definitely lovely to have a convenient location before venturing off to the CT or checking out Denver for fun!

Did some overnight camping in my 4Runner here. First time camping in this area and I will be back. The road is dirt once you get into the park but it’s very well maintained, I saw sedans cruising through with no problems. Plenty of camp sites to choose from. Some were tent only and others, like the one I stayed at, were big enough for campers. Didn’t have a hard time getting a spot but I did go up on a Monday night. I could imagine this place would get busy on the weekends. There’s some trails throughout the campsites that looked interesting but I didn’t look into those further. Further down the road is a small stream with parking spots and fire rings (no overnight camping). I could imagine that would be a fun afternoon for kids and or dogs. The only downside I could think of was that camp sites are right off the main road for the most part, so there will be vehicles driving past. Noise wasn’t bad for me but I could imagine that might bother others. I have AT&T and reception was pretty spotty. I met a guy camping further down from me who has Verizon and he told me that he had pretty good reception still, but I did not verify it so take that as you will. Overall it’s a great place to camp.

Some people left trash but also firewood so we called it even. You’ll have a great time here!
