It has been 2 years since we were in the area. We only went in a short distance as we were pulling a 24ft trailer and read the reviews regarding sand. We turned around and the crest of the hill and parked at the pads at the entrance to the area. There was no charge beautiful views and close to the National Park where we dumped our tanks and filled up with water (we had an annual National park pass) While camping at the entrance to Red Dirt Road we watched quite a few people that also chose NOT to go down the hill. I do know some stayed down at the campsite and enjoyed it but we chose NOT to risk getting stuck. I think there was room for about 8-10 campers.

Road gets very sandy. Wouldn't try to get in there with anything bigger than a van. Not very many or private spots right on the road.
