We knew this camp ground had a loop with first come first serve, so we stopped by to check it out.The sites were small and close together. The first come first serve loop had only a few camp sites. Some of the sites back up to Hwy 93 which carries a lot of traffic during the day.

I booked here because it was one of the few places I could get a reservation in the summer. It ended up being a magical experience. Well placed between Banff and Jasper, it was a perfect base to explore. The campground itself has some amazing walks/hikes along the Saskatchewan river which runs beside the campground. Rampart creek is actually across the Icefields Parkway at the hostel. From here, it’s only about 30 miles to the Columbia Icefields Discovery Center where you can book to walk on the Athabasca Glacier, which I recommend. Just south of the campground, is the Crossroads resort which has a restaurant, gas & propane, and some groceries. Reservations are required for all of the sites except 1-11 which are first-come. Reservations open in January, so book early if you want a site by the river. No water/electric. Pit toilets are very clean and well maintained. Highly recommend this campground.

Some of the sites back up to the river which is beautiful. Internet is non-excitant for nearly 40-miles in either direction. Bear boxes and toilets are centralized. The campground is well laid out so it doesn't feel crowded at all.

Since we did this we had lots of choices of sites, and although our previous rig is way longer then recommended we were still able to maneuver and find a spot without issue. Several 36+ Class A motor coaches even showed up and found spots. I would not recommend doing this during the main season, as it may get very tight very quick for you. We had a spot that was backed up to the creek, which was a very nice area.

The entire campground is First Come First Served, which is great for a couple of ramblin’ anti-planners. Expect the campground to get full nightly during peak season. Gorgeous views, well maintained.
