We were here over a weekend (Aug 21-23).
There are several areas to camp along this road. From signage, it looks like part of the area is BLM and part is National Forest. Up the road there is also a lot of private property signs.
We decided to camp right past the cattle guard, off the hardly busy highway. Several locals rode up the road with OHV's and used part of our area as their staging area. The area isn't exactly level but not bad. There was trash, but not anymore.
We took the Razer about 11 miles up the road and got a bit of cell service. It's got some pretty good tire ruts at the beginning, like someone went though there when it was wet and muddy. We saw several passenger vehicles pass by, however. About a mile and a half up it becomes rocky, fine for the off road vehicle but again those passenger vehicles were up there. Beyond that parts of the road were great. There is an old mining area with several old abandoned cabins about 7 miles up, much of this area was labeled private property.
Several spots: at 0.3 miles and 0.4 miles on the left were a couple of spots there by the cemetery, 0.9 miles there were 5 sites with rock fire rings, 1.2 miles was another site and at 1.3 miles there were sites with a FS sign. Much beyond this point the road becomes rough.
We were able to cross the highway and have access to the Big Hole River for fishing,
FourFeetFourPaws would stay here again
