A bit bumpy at beginning but would definitely bring larger units in here without problem. I can see it would get busy in summer but lots of variety of sites and good separation. A twisty road to Sedona but scenic. Area is used by locals for Access to ATV and trails but not an issue for us. Lots of sites and space. Sewer dump at the Speedway in town. (No fresh water) Fresh water at the Fry’s gas station. The local Swift Travel Center sells fresh water but who wants to pay…..

The road in was very rocky and we almost turned around to prevent unneeded puncture of tire. Also camp site did have a fair amount of broken glass we picked up so our dog wouldn’t get cut. I would recommend 4x4 and even then I wouldn’t imagine you could go over 2 mph. It is very pretty under the trees.

This could be an ideal camping area but there were a few issues, mostly due to users who don't know how to poo/pee in the woods, who think everyone else wants to hear their music, and who think that campfires with 3 foot flame lengths are a good idea. Given the amount of TP behind every tree, I think the Coconino NF should really consider a few vault toilets, or a heavy education campaign, or at least some signage suggesting some options other than leaving TP, wipes, hygiene products, etc. behind a tree. The campsites themselves were ok, but behind the low fence that is supposed to keep out vehicles, it was a giant latrine.
Our immediate camp neighbors were courteous and conscientious, but there was a group playing loud music starting at about 8 am. A car alarm went off at 3am, and my husband reported loud music sometime in the middle of the night, but I slept through it.
Positive things - nice camp spots and not too tightly packed. Cell service, easy access from 89A and I-17. We had a tent, and the tent spot was flat. I could see this being great for RVs and trailers. Access is easier from 89A.

3. At least my campsite had a weird inclination so sleeping was a nightmare. We started at the edge of the tent, and ended at the other end. But mostly the problem in the ground. I had pads, footprint for tent and everything, but that was not enough.
Make yourself a favor and look for another spot close by. There are. The view at the sky is beautiful. But the night was a pain.

SUPER crowded and multiple camp groups partying with loud music and singing until 1am. Someone then started up a generator at 4am. Toilet paper everywhere. This place has been over run.

The sites are easy to level.
I didn’t have any reception (T-Mobile) but I would walk to the camp’s entrance and was able to check emails and make phone calls.
Unfortunately the place had quite a bit of garbage left behind by others.
I felt safe here as a solo traveler though and it really was beautiful and peaceful.

Not far off the highway but far enough that we heard zero highway traffic. The road is pretty bumpy but fine if you slow down. Campsites were clean and well marked. Two other campers there. Everyone was quiet. Star gazing was amazing. Sites are not “perfectly” level but fine if you brought blocks.

Lots of sites, the road is rough but manageable. None of the sites are close to level so it was hard to find a spot with our class A but manageable. Verizon service was good.

We drove our 32’ motor home in with a tow dolly and made it just fine. Numerous campsites to choose from. We chose site 114, which was right near the Forest. We stayed for three days and after the weekenders left, we had it almost all to ourselves, which was great because it allowed us to turn around easily.
Many, if not all, campers pee and poop in the woods and don’t dig holes or dispose of their toilet paper, so there is used TP everywhere.
Other than that, we felt safe and loved the proximity to Sedona and Flagstaff.

This dispersed camping area is nestled in the tall pines and just a stone’s throw from Flagstaff. We visited mid-week and only saw a few other campers. We had our pick of sites. The biggest drawback was the overload of trash (especially toilet paper) that littered the area. We spent about an hour picking up trash around our site to make it more appealing and livable . What a shame that people leave such messes! Once cleaned up we enjoyed the quiet and peacefulness. At night we could hear elk bugling.
We didn’t find any trails nearby but the forest road was a good workout n the mountain bike. Lots of other trails within driving distance.
It’s free boondocking so there are no services. No toilets, no trash service, and no water. We have a 32’ fifth wheel so we were self-contained. Roads were a little rocky coming in but doable. Overall this is a good option for any rig if you can get beyond the trash.

Gated. Cave Springs, Pine Flat camp grounds, and all the FS roads dispersed are seasonal. Not open til April (This is Mar 30!).
“Closed for winter season”

We stopped by on January but the gate was locked.
“Road was closed ”

Gate was closed at the entrance of the road probably for the season. Some mud and snow visible. We weren’t able to camp here. Would love to camp here when it’s open.

“Closed”

We tried to stay here 3-1-2021 and the gate was closed. We were traveling from flagstaff (plans to stay in flag for the night) to Sedona. Along all of 89A, the campgrounds were all closed. It appears to be close Oct - May due to weather conditions otherwise would have been awesome. We ended up continuing on to Sedona for the night.
