Easy access for any sized rig. There are fire rings around that indicate the camping sites. Part of the camping is closed right now due to flooding but there is still plenty of room. Views are amazing! Right on the lake. No cell service but Starlink works great here. I do think you have to have an annual alberta backcountry camping pass found online ($30 CAD per person). We dumped and filled up on water at the crossing which is about 25 mins away. There are pit toilets here. Pretty crowded by Thursday evening, we arrived Wednesday and got one of the last spots on the water.

I went to the area twice in the last month for weekend trips. First I went to Thompson Creek Campground. A provincially owned first come first serve site. 29$ for no service site treed so well you cant see the mountains, but the firewood was free.

On the way back, pulled over at one of the many turn outs that lead to some of the best free Camping in the area.

My strategy was to go as far as the Thompson Creek campground, deep in the valley, and work my way back, pulling over at different beaten paths. I walked down and see if I had a shot at getting down there or not and if I could access a site with my Equinox towing a 2200 lbs tent trailer. I found a spot and the pictures speak for themselves. But let me tell you, this was just the tip of the iceberg. During the three days and two nights I spent there, I walked down a couple kilometeres to see other nearby free campsites, and there were a bundle all over.

Poachers' point is listed, so it's crowded, But there are some that are just as good if not better ALL ALLONG THE HWY.

You'll hear the echo of the road everywhere. But go deeper in the woods and it gets better. Water front lots are abondent.

This is an outstanding canadian rockies free camping experience.
