We arrived on the Monday before Labor Day and we were only there until Friday. I got ill and had to go to the emergency room the day we arrived, then to the hospital. The camp ground was all booked up for the weekend my partner was not sure what she was going to do if I was not out by Thursday. The owners found her a spot if it would come t that. I was told that i could not drive for 4 day's when i was released from the hospital on Thursday. Well the campground called us to let us know that the people that were booked at our site canceled ans we could stay over the weekend and the next week.
What great customer service they extended to us.
Thank you to Jamie Schell and Anne Conway for all your help

Beautiful river side site. Many eagle sightings! Nice, park-like setting. There is some regular train noise, but not too close.

This nice campground is on the west bank of the Mississippi River, along a backwater slough. Its an expansive park that includes a frisbee golf course, store, equipment rentals, a community garden and sandy beaches. Some RV sites have electricity and water, and some have only electricity. There are no sites with sewer but the park has a single station dump facility. Our site was electricity only, but there was really a lot of real estate between us and the next campers, and we parked on grass. The best sites in my view are the ones along the long beach, sites #84 through #106. However, they won't be as large as what we had at 170, but good access to the river for swimming or paddling. They do have recycling.
The manager, Jamie, is very personable and ensures that your needs are met. There isn't much else for RVing in Winona, so here it is.

Prairie Island Campground is situated right on the Mississippi River. It is a part of the Prairie Island Park which is a city park of Winona, MN. The land was donated to the city in 1915 by a local grocer who had a love for the outdoors. There are 175 campsites, 107 offer water and electric and 68 are primitive sites. There is a nice shower house and a few nice pit toilets scattered through the campground. There are both shaded and sunny sites available. You can rent bicycles, canoes, kayaks, stand up paddle boards and camping equipment. There is a small camp store where you can purchase basic grocery items firewood, ice, and some fishing tackle and bait. You can also exchange propane tanks. There is a boat launch and small swimming beach, there are no lifeguards. There is also an off-leash dog park. With our Sure Call Cell Booster we got an excellent T-Mobile signal. We were able to stream video with no problem.
We were there the last week of October the last week of their season and it was cold. The water was shut down for the season because the nights were in the 20s the whole time we were there. As far as I could tell only two other RVs were occupied. So we were not the only crazy people there. The sites were roomy. I look forward to returning in warm weather to get the full experience of the campground.

The sites are surprisingly big! We backed into our site, assuming a typical site size, there was enough room for another camper between us and the neighbor - so the neighbor used our unused space to keep their boat.
Our site was across the street from the river, that was pretty nice! The guests seemed like a mix of weekend warriors and group travelers. Canoe, kayak and stand-up paddleboards were available for rent on site.
No sewer hookups and the bathroom with shower is a bit of a hike away. There are pit toilets along the way. When we stayed it was very hot and pit toilets with no AC weren't a dream come true.

My Fiance and I stayed here the first weekend of June 2018. This is an awesome campground and well worth the stay. The price was so reasonable and the couple managing the campground were amazing people. They are very environmentally conscious and doing a lot to make this place beautiful. The people staying at the campground were conscientious about other campers and it was not noisy at all. The sites are huge. We tent camped right on the Mississippi. We camp a lot and I highly recommend this Prairie Island Campground. Winona has a lot to offer too! Check out the Minnesota Maritime Art Museum while you are there.

Nice facility for short stay, not far from downtown and on a backwater of Miss. River. Bring plenty of elec. chordate and hose to make connections. I'm sure it is busy in the summer and on warm weekends. A good river fishermen C/G.
