This is one of 2 primitive campgrounds in Potts Preserve. Directions took me right to the gate and the road in from Inverness is fairly good. You’ll need to make a reservation (free) at the Southwest Florida Water Management website to receive the gate code. From the gate you drive about 1/4 mile to the first group of sites. There are 4 sites here and a portable toilet. Another 1/2 mile down the road is another set of sites. I believe 5, all along the river. The gate is locked beyond the parking area so these sites are for tent camping. There is a portable toilet and a pit toilet building.
The toilets are cleaned every Wednesday and I arrived just as the Ranger was leaving so they were spotless (they’re the big, handicapped style portable-lets) but I’d imagine Monday or Tuesday they’re fairly ripe 😬
The road is dirt but looks like it was recently graded and filled so no potholes. My van is 9’6” high and no problem with overhead clearance but a big rig might have issues. All the sites are big and well spaced with a picnic table and fire ring.
Other than the morning and dusk river traffic (all of 4 boats) this place is super quiet.
I had zero cell reception with an Apple 14 on ATT so download maps or anything else you need before you get here.
Note: Only 2 of the RV friendly sites get any sun so keep that in mind if you rely on solar.
Fred6185 would stay here again

Beautiful place. I have camped here several times. Spots are right on the Withlacoochee River. You can fish and canoe or kayak right from your site. Lots of boat and airboat travel but interesting to watch.
Chrissy would stay here again

We booked and camped in early February and knew it was high season here in Florida for camping. We arrived on a Monday early afternoon and had to take the last and least desirable non waterfront camp site as the remaining sites were already taken. We first had to visit the on site restroom, a vault toilet. It was not maintained and very gross. My wife and I made our way with our 18 ft camper trailer to the very end of about a 3 to 5 acre clearing. It had no river view, but a nice private view of the woods. We got all set up and ran the generator for about an hour to cool the trailer as it was in the high 80's and very humid. We got cooled off after set up and set off to walk our two dogs only to be greeted by a loose dog running around our campsite. Turns out our neighboring campers had a dog they never kept on a leash despite the displeasure and outrage from the other campers. The dog was not aggressive, so we just went on our way. We knew getting a cellular signal was going to be almost impossible, not a gripe about the campground. There is no cellular signal out here. None.
The trails were torn to pieces by the wild hogs. The WMA has scheduled numerous hunts to control the hog population. This place is just too rough for me. No noise, very quiet at nite. I need a few creature comforts and got none here. Oh, also the sand gnats were pretty bad for winter and we got eaten up pretty good. If you can get lucky enough to land one of about only 3 waterfront camp sites you may love it. We did not and did not. The hunt will continue.
Thanks.

Beautiful. Quiet, Beside the river with access for boating. Large campsites. So perfect for watching the night sky, and we particularly enjoyed the hundreds of fireflies! Amazing. We will definitely return for an extended stay right here.
Each site has fire pit, picnic table and lots of room for all of your extras.
