Portland Fairview RV Park Thousand Trails

Decent full hook up campground, nothing overly special here outside the fact that it’s pretty close to the city.

Huge downside is that there’s absolutely 0 security. We had stuff stolen from our site the second day of our stay! Lost about $300 worth of tools, clothes, pet stuff, etc. talked to the front desk and they said they used to have security but that went away, no gate or cameras covering the whole grounds so really anyone can drive in off the busy road and be here.

From what I hear too, theft here is increasing recently (hopefully it’s not some living in the park!) suggest going to another grounds that has some level of security to it so you don’t lose your stuff like we did.

We stay at quite a few thousand trails because of our membership and over all they tend to be run down and in need of an update but this is by far the worst! Sites are a mess the noise is awful between planes trains and a noisy freeway all we hear is noise which I can actually deal with. But the lack of up keep and all the full time residence with junk everywhere made this tuff to stay here… even for one night and even for free.

This is a suburban area campground a few blocks from I-84. The 400+ campsites are a mix of back-in and pull-through sites (mostly pull-throughs) broken up into multiple sections and four levels of elevation. The sites in the front sections are level with the road, and thus are subject to a bit of road noise, and the rest of the sections are lower, with the back section being the lowest. The interior roads are paved, while the sites have concrete pads and grass lawns. Each pad is twice as wide in either the front half or back half to provide a parking space. We had to move sites during our stay: both sites were level and had the hookups in the usual place. Both were just long enough that we could have left our 37-foot fifth wheel hooked up to our 21-foot truck for an overnight stay, but only just. Some sites get shade from neighboring trees; some do not.

In terms of amenities, there is a swimming pool and a clubhouse (containing a pool table and some card tables) across the street from the office. The clubhouse building also has bathroom and laundry facilities as well as a few parking places. The top section also has two long stretches of grass at the back, each with a bench and a dog waste trashcan, which is where we frequently walked our dogs (there were a few other smaller stretches, but there was no longer a dedicated/enclosed dog park when we were there). The main trash and recycling area, with multiple dumpsters and cans, is located next to the main road just after it descends out of the first section, along with a few more parking spaces and a nearby bathhouse. Further down the hill is a single-basket basketball court, an artificial pond that is home to some ducks, and a few benches. The bottom/back section of the campground has another bathhouse with laundry facilities and a small outdoor hot tub. There is an elevated train track just behind the campground, and the trains make a fair amount of noise when they go by.

The campground staff were very helpful. They tried to see if they could arrange for us to stay in our original site (site 54 in the top section) for our entire stay. They couldn’t do that (that site had been requested specifically by an incoming camper), but they worked with us to find a new site that was still close to the dog-walking areas (and not down in the bottom section). They also took a desk table I was trying to get rid of off my hands (for use in the clubhouse) so I didn’t need to throw it away (the nearby Goodwills had no space to take it). They do accept packages at the office.

In terms of cell service, the speed tests I got using my Verizon Jetpack with MIMO antenna when we initially arrived were terrible: 2Mbps down and 4 up. Yet I could stream video with some buffering, and during our stay the bandwidth was consistently strong until the evening, when some nights it would be too congested to stream and web browsing was a big sluggish. The best speeds I saw on my AT&T phone were 70Mbps down and 6 up. My wife tried the campground WiFi (free for the first 7 days). She reported it was great in site 54 (where we were right next to a repeater), but it was useless in our 2nd site (site 113).

We would stay here again if we were in the area.

Nice enough place for a few nights and only 15-20 minutes from downtown Portland. However….
Our site was along the front fence which borders a busy four lane road. If noise bothers you, get a site further back in the park. Also planes fly overhead to the nearby airport.
This park has a mix of travelers and extended stay. Sites are neatly kept though.
The pool was heated and clean.
The bathrooms near the pool and front were often a mess and seem to be used by homeless people who walk in and out the nearby front gate. They were flooded and there was toilet paper with feces. Bathrooms and laundry are closed 11p-7a because the front office guy said “they get some unsavory characters at night”. Well buddy, lock things down, get some security, and fix it. We walked to bathrooms further back in the park and they were better.
This park badly needs a security gate in the front the keep out both car and foot traffic. It also needs code locks on all doors.

We stayed here for 1 night as quick stop on our way up to Washington.

It look like it more like a permanent stay park for many of the stationed trailers.
It served it purpose for us.

I washed a load here it was nice to have the automated self serve machine for dryer and washer machines. Instead of the coins.

The sites are real close up to your neighbor.

Ohh my, the sweet aroma of weeks worth of dog feces in the spot next to us. Looks like many of the residents have lived there full time for over a year. Garbage everywhere. Broken toys (both dog and children) scattered about. Grass between the sites had not been mowed for a long time, not that you would want to because you would fling feces all over the place.

Sewer connection was open to the air. Yuck. Water connection had slugs crawling over it . Yuck.

Railroad tracks a mere few feet from the camp sights. Did not stay long enough to know if tracks were active. Loud cars revving engines.

AT&T may have had 2 bars, but internet was not useful for even checking email. No hotspot. No streaming. No zoom calls.

Checked in, checked right back out.

This is a terrible campground near Portland. There are not a lot of choices, so they can get away with charging the amount they do. Our spot had cig butts and peanut shells all over, and was next to chain smoking permanent residents. Our expectations were pretty low, but given that it’s a thousand trails, thought it would be more family friendly. Oh and there are trains. We also had sheriffs deputy’s looking for a fugitive. Not a good look.
