Most sites are in thick tree cover with some berry bearing bushes in the higher # sites. There a some fc/fs sites in this campground. Lower # sites have a less tree cover, and most are smaller trees but it does have a lot more high berry bushes all around, making these sites much more private. Site 5, 7 & 9 overlook the water and appear to have some really nice views. Occupied so couldn't check further or get photos. Sites 2-4 are tent only sites that you walk down through high berry bearing bushes. Site #4 has a beautiful level gravel area with a hefty picnic table and massive firepit/grill top, like the RV sites have. The view from this site is awesome, makes me wish we were tent camping!
CG is about 18 miles from the highway, with a few bars, restaurants, white water rafting and a few other businesses about a mile back in the town of Hope. There is no dump station but one is available in Hope at one of the campgrounds for $10 and includes fresh water refill using one of the sites so need to call ahead to be sure there is room for you to dump/fill. Potable water at hand pump stations, vault toilets in Porcupine CG itself. Our starlink works fantastic in our site.
Looking forward to relaxing and taking trips to Whittier, Portage, Girdwood.
A busy week with bears! One bear causing issues in a few of the campsites for almost a week when we got here. Mostly due to PEOPLE not adhering to leave nothing out in BEAR COUNTRY! Sadly this 3 yr old bear was dispatched 3 days ago after charging law enforcement and becoming more aggressive and not fearing any attempts to keep it out of the campsites. Turns out we knew the law enforcement officer from our home town, where he was born & raised in the lower 48. The following day I saw what I thought at first was a dog but did a double take and realized it was a bear, not 30 feet from me, nibbling on berries sitting on it's butt in the host's site. Host was gone for a few days. The bear was the same size, so most likely it was a twin. This 2nd bear has been doing typical bear behavior in as much as you make noise and it moves on. Trails around the campground do show there are larger bears in the area also, which we are bear aware as our home is located in black/grizz country.

We drove in at 3:00 with no reservation and there were a handful of open sites. Beautiful views and paved road and sites. Plenty of privacy between.

My campsite was RV friendly (easy back-in) and an easy fit for my 27’ Winnebago. Loved watching the tide come in and go out. No hookups, but definitely worth the drive.

We were looking for a place to stay that would be convenient to visit Hope and hike in the area. We're self-contained in our 25 foot MH and don't use the facilities. We stayed on a weekend in late August. This is a nice, clean CG a mile from Hope. There are approximately 30 primitive (no hookups) sites arrayed on a loop. There are a mix of tent only, back in and pull through sites. Some are nearer the water with views while the others are in the forest. The sites are generously sized and surrounded by trees for shade and privacy. The parking pads are paved and most require some leveling. There are pit toilets and trash bins. There are water pumps without threaded hoses to fill an RV. There's no dump station. There's good ATT and Verizon cell service.

This place is BEAUTIFUL! Classic National Forest single loop campground, but it looks like it is only a couple years old. Asphalt road and parking pads. A least three toilet buildings scattered around the loop. It is dry camping, but that's why they call it camping! The campground was less than half full midweek in late May, but there were lots of reservations posted for the weekend. Looks like it's pretty popular with the Anchorage crowd.
The Geezer pass 50% discount applies - $9 for most sites including site 25 that was deep enough for the truck and trailer plus the car.
The campground is on a bluff above the south shores of Turnagain Arm, but there is essentially no views from any of the sites. There is a trail that leaves the campground and follows the arm to the west. There was AT&T coverage (they're generally better than Verizon in Alaska) but it had pretty high latency so while the signal was certainly strong enough, data rates were slow.
This is not a long term campground for those depending on solar. Most all of the sites are heavily shaded. We would have been OK in Site 25 with the portable panel, but it was just one night and the batteries were charged already.
It's quite a ways off the Seward Highway to Hope, but the campground is super nice.
