This was just a spot for me to park and sleep while I went in to DC to visit the Holocaust Memorial. I paid about $20 for an Uber ride (Express Pool) into DC (Lincoln Memorial) on a Sunday morning. It took about 45 mins maybe a little less. You can also take the metro from the Franconia-Springfield station which is about 11 miles and a 25 minute drive away. The Uber ride was only a little more and much faster to just go all the way into the city so I didn't bother.
The campsite is not very big and a number of the sites aren't level. Another person wrote a review about picking a level site. 68 was level enough for 2 nights of sleep without any leveling blocks. I didn't use any of the facilities so I can't comment on that.
The staff were super friendly and helpful. I didn't have any problems with noise but I was barely there.
I had a 30 amp electric only site (they are in the process of upgrading all of their sites to 50 amp). I was able to use the water fill station so it wasn't a problem for such a short stay. The sites are pretty close together with some trees, but definitely not very private. Most of the sites appeared to have gravel which helped with keeping the dirt and leaves out of the RV.
All in all, I would stay here again to visit DC.

Nice quiet park with lots of shade.
Positives: friendly staff, clean bathrooms with free hot showers, nice laundry facilities that consist of 2 full size washers and dryers in both bathroom/shower houses for only $2 a load, trees provide privacy between sites that are spaced pretty well and easy to access, nice grassy area in the center of the loop and playground for the kids, site has a fire ring, picnic table and grill, drinking water is available on either side of the check in building for filling RV tanks and/or containers and there is a dish washing sink outside the bathrooms, dump station is easy to access. Our site was level and plenty deep to fit our 22' travel trailer and pickup. The metro is only about 20 minutes away and provides an easy way to explore Washington DC without the hassle of driving.
Negatives: As mentioned in other reviews many of the outside loop sites are sloped sharply and not RV friendly. It rained a lot one day we were there and some sites became mini lakes but again, the amount of rain was not typical.

Pros: *Quiet and dark *Gravel sites, only a small amount of mud (it was raining the whole 3 days we were there. *Large sites with tall trees between you and your neighbor *Lovely, clean bathrooms and laundry rooms (2 washers and 2 dryers in each of two bathhouses *20 minute drive to the Franconia/ Springfield DC Metro station, then a 40 minute ride in to DC, easy access to museums and memorials, White House, and US Congress. *No locked gate, come and go easily. *Discounted golf for campers ($35/ round /18 holes) at nearby Pohick Bay Golf Course.
Campsites are arranged around a central open meadow with a great playground in the grassy center. There is a marina on site. There is a water park, too. I think it's only open in the summer.
Cons: *The sites on the inside of the loop are pretty level, but it seems that most of the sites on the outside of the loop are heavily sloped. I would not want to try to level my rig on these sites. *Some sites have full hook-ups, some have electric and water, some have only electric, some have no services at all. Go figure. Our site had water and electric, and we were so happy, because it was 95 degrees and humid. 30 amps = one air conditioner. Happiness!
No bugs to speak of! More Happiness! Site quality only 4 stars because: no sewer connection!

This place is very nice, ideally located, clean facilities and overall a great campground. However, the sites are highly variable, we wrote a blog post about that (see the blog posts tab). If you camp in the middle of the big loop, you'll get a great spot. The two best spots in this campground are 67 & 75, both of which have full hookups and appear to be perfectly level.
I'm finishing up a spreadsheet of which sites are best, and will have it posted on my website (http://hinson.co/dc) soon.
If you want to go out on the bay, or want to be near DC, this place is really great. We stayed here so that we could take the family into DC and visited the National Zoo. There are two playgrounds on site (one near the marina, and one in the campground itself).
There is a water park here as well, but apparently, it's not included in your stay (though it is 50% off for campers).
Renting canoes and kayaks is reasonably priced (something like $10/hr or 30-40/day).
I will probably stay here again when visiting the DC area.

They have various types of sites, including full hook up sites but we were in an electric only site. Site 72 was relatively level but just a little close on one side to our neighbor. Other sites seemed more spread out although there were a few I saw while walking around that didn't look very level.
There's a field with a playground and 2 comfort stations that were cleaned daily. The comfort stations also have washers and dryers that cost $1.75/load. They also offer curbside trash pickup; you can leave your bagged trash by the road between 11am and noon.
