My husband and I stayed for 5 days here and it was beautiful. When we first arrived I had booked site number 17 and that turned out to be way too shaded for my starlink as well as had too many squirrels throwing acorns at my solar panels and was not handicapped friendly either lol! So we spoke to park staff and were able to move to a more open spot number 100 which was also by a trail head, bathrooms, showers and fire wood. It was quiet and seemed very private even though it was so close to so many things. We would 100% stay again. Phone signal for att was pretty much nonexistent. Recommend some sort of booster or starlink for connectivity

Our favorite Virginia State Park!!!! We camped in our 21ft Campervan in March 2022 and again in June 2022. The rangers are extremely nice and knowledgeable. The park has plenty of things to do no matter what season you visit. There are tons of hiking trails, Pool complex and CCC museum. The sites are a good size and are surrounded by beautiful greenery and wildlife. We usually see numerous deer and lots of birds during our stay. The bugs are minimal (coming from a west coast girl). The dump station is great and the water/power hook up are very well maintained. There is a Food Lion grocery a few miles away that is perfect for any of your needs.
*The only area that needs improvement is the shower stalls. No matter what bathhouse you go too it seems like they aren't being cleaned. Lots of cobwebs, mold in the grout and caulking, and are really dark. This spring they updated one set of showers but doesn't look like anyone has cleaned since then.

This place is off the hook. Flat, level, paved, pull-through sites with 50 amp + water. There’s a water park and plentiful MTB trails. Water park opens Memorial Day Weekend. We were just passing through on our way to the Keys but we’d consider making this a destination.

We look forward to coming back to this state park. We had a great experience here from the time we checked in to the moment we left. On arrival mid-week we found the gatehouse unoccupied but found ample parking for the campground office/store near the entrance. The staff at the office were very friendly. At the time of our stay the park is transitioning to site specific reservations. By the 2022 season all sites will be reservable by site number. When we made our reservation this was not the case. We were told to drive through the campground loops and choose any site with a white post that was unoccupied. We found several sites that would work well for us.
Restroom buildings with individual shower rooms were dispersed throughout the campground loops. A camp store open Friday-Sunday was centrally located and a camper laundry facility was next door. Volunteers for the state park offer firewood at several locations for $5.00 (on an honor system) for a five gallon bucket full. A playground was located near the camp store and it stayed very busy with young campers all weekend.
Our favorite activity was to visit the CCC Museum to learn more about the development of the park and the young men who went to work during the depression to help support their families back home. The museum was well done with many artifacts from this time and located in a CCC constructed building (one of hundreds still existing in the park).
Many bike trails crisscross the state park and if weather had been better during our stay we would have enjoyed them more. We now have a good reason to come back soon.

We stayed at this state park on our way to Maine. We absolutely loved it and would definitely stay again. Large wooded sites with great separation from your neighbors. We had a pull thru site (71) and it was paved, level and had a great gravel pad area beside it. Nice park to walk and bike, had many trails as well. We didn’t stay long enough to do any activities near the lake, but it was pretty. You can also rent tiny cabins and yurts. Firewood & kindling are readily available, you fill a bucket for $6 at the woodshack and pay via a QR code or stick money in the box.

Pocahontas State Park is Virginia's largest state park. They've filled the park with many activities to keep you going. There are equestrian trails, mountain bike trails, hiking trails .... trails, trails, trails. There is a water park/swimming pool. There is a small lake for kayaking and fishing. It's all very well done and because of the size of the park, you don't feel cramped.
The campground consists of two sections. The first section is the older section and the sites are nestled in the forest and well screened from each other. The problem with these sites is that very few are level. On a large number of them you are going to struggle to get level even with leveling blocks. The newer section is farther in the back. This area is open with grass and all of the sites appear to be level. Do not expect to be screened from your neighbors. All of the sites have large, well constructed, crushed stone pads with a fire ring ad picnic table.
One odd thing about the campground is that there are two types of reservations. Site-specific reservations and general reservations. With site -specific reservations you obtain a specific campsite at the time of making the reservation. With the general reservations you are guaranteed a type of site, but not a specific campsite. We reserved the latter. When we arrived we were told to drive around and pick any empty site that had a "white post." We arrived on a Tuesday afternoon, so this worked great and we were able to get a reasonably level site tucked into the woods. However, if we had arrived after dark or on a Friday or Saturday afternoon, this could have been a disaster as all of the level sites may have already been occupied. Be aware of this when making reservations.

We stayed here 4 nights. Site 84 was our favorite, of the ones that we had, but there are many great sites. We took a 25 mile mountain bike tour of the park one of the days, and found fantastic trails. Ensure you get the map app in noted on the park trail maps, as that really helps you find your way around. It has all of the trails on it and shows your position using your phone's GPS. There are a myriad of trails, so it really helps. There is a terrain park on the north side of the park, which is great fun, and I wish we were able to spend more time there. There are sections for every level of rider, something you rarely find. We also visited Monticello one day, which is ~1:20 drive from the park. The bath facilities are very well maintained, however, the shower water could be much warmer. The hosts were very helpful and friendly, and knew our names by our 2nd day.

Showers private and hot so we used those rather than dump tanks with our Rhino cause the dump site was very far away. Lots of trails to access from campground and a water park (not open yet). About 30 min to downtown Richmond and 90 to Williamsburg. No WiFi but able to stream with AT&T.
