“Terrific Desert Camping by a River”

Very nice, newer campground areas. Museum and gift shop were closed during COVID19 but walking trails and river access were awesome. 4miles down a wide dirt road to get to campground, but easily managed without four wheel drive for even the largest rig if you are comfortable with a few washboard spots.
Central dump with no portable wash water.
Plenty of primitive (no water nor electric) and developed (potable water and electric) campsites with shaded picnic tables. Giant group picnic/campsite areas built as well.
Mostly desert landscape with a few trees. Wind can whip up fairly quickly. A few farms nearby with cows. Lots of atv/dirt bike trails and folks utilizing them.

Nice new campground outside Yerington. After turning off the pavement road a couple miles south of town, it’s a 3.8 mi decent grated dirt road to get to the camp entrance. Speed limit is 25mph, but in a 33’ class C towing a Jeep, we only went 10-15mph because in spots the washboard road would rattle us like crazy going any faster. There’s two different camp areas with either hookups or no-hookups. The camp area without hookups is a little nicer with more grass/alfalfa all around. The campground with water/power is similar but not as green, and just a little confusing to get to because the signs don’t really say where to go But it’s east of the visitor center and down the road from the dump station.

Website says 30’ max length but we’re 33’ Class C+tow car and had zero issues since there are mostly pull thrus and lots of options since it’s not super busy.

When we were here the water spigots at each campsite had a note saying to fill your tank only and not leave the spigot on because of major leaks they were trying to fix with the manufacturer.

Bathrooms are new and clean with showers.

Big shady trees are a ways from the campsites but they have a bunch of baby trees started and a big metal shade structure at each site. There was a trailer of firewood that had a sign ‘donations appreciated’

There’s a nice trail along the Walker River to walk, ride bikes, fish, etc.

Not a whole lot to do out here besides trail riding, exploring the desert, fishing, and enjoying some peace and quiet without any road noise or light pollution.

-$15/night to camp, plus $10/night if you want power (20/30/50A) and water hookups
-some sites have 2x water/power hookups to camp with two rvs in-line with each other as a group
-Dump station and garbage
-nice clean/new bathrooms with showers
-each site has nice metal table, fire ring, and shade structure
-no reservations but maybe only 5 other trailers here with lots of room to spare midweek middle of July 2019
-Boosted Verizon signal to 3 bars LTE in the rv but lost reception near the river. It’s either you have LTE or no service with Verizon.
