Thought my 38 footer would fit in a 28 ft space (?). Asked for directions to get out of campground (38ft with car in tow) and directed to the left, up a hill....turnaround only big enough for 32 foot vehicle, NOT 38 ft towing. So it was unhook the tow, and do TWO forward/back manoevers to get back out, AFTER being told by camp host I could access the highway from the way he directed me. Trees need to be trimmed back to allow unobstructed passage through camp road-another reason I passed on this place. Number of sites cut in half (pandemic). Not a bargain, even with senior pass, especially when there are many boondock options in the area.

We arrived on a Monday (after camping on a neighboring forest road for the busy weekend) and found a nice, pretty level paved site great for solar and near the clean pit toilet, one of three. The host is very friendly and accommodating and told us from which sites we could choose, as capacity is limited to 25% during COVID. It is a busy campground, but filled with tall fir and pine, surrounded by trails which lead to the town of Cloudcroft.
Sites do not have water or electric, but there are water fountains with spigots at each restroom for filling jugs.
There are LOTs of moths at night (turn off your lights!) and many hummingbirds for entertainment.
Dumping is available at nearby Silver overflow lot for $7; showers for $5.

Loved the Lincoln National Forest. Great campground, clean pit toilets, water available. Dump station down the road. Hiking trails galore just out the door. MOST don't allow motor vehicles, just read the map and you have miles of trails and roads. This is just one of many campgrounds in the forest. This was a smaller one, make reservations early. Midweek in July it was quiet. Town of Cloudcroft about 10 miles away, groceries, shops and cell service there.
There were multiple size sites, well spaced. LOVED seeing the elk come through- watch your dogs. Quiet park, noisy on weekends, but hosts made sure everyone followed the rules.

We sold our home and became full-time RVers on May 2, 2018. My husband landed a camp hosting job at the Pines Campground in Cloudcroft, New Mexico. We had never been to Cloudcroft - everyone said it is the best place ever! They were RIGHT! We showed up at the Pines and were immediately in love. It is a peaceful and lovely place that we have come to adore and is located just outside the Village of Cloudcroft. The popular Osha Trail (which goes right into downtown) runs through the camp, there are three vault toilet facilities, potable water at all three, many different sizes of campsites from small tent sites to sites large enough for multiple rigs and families. There are 23 sites in total, including a double site, triple site, and four family tent site. There is a butterfly garden, nature trails, aluminum recycling bins, a trash dumpster, and the campsites have concrete picnic tables, large fire pits and most have designated tent pads. What we love about the Pines: Easy to access, close to town, quiet, larger rigs fit well (we have a 41' toy hauler!), the whole camp is filled with majestic pines and aspen trees, the asphalt roads are good quality and easy to navigate, and I may be a little biased, but the camp host is really nice and helpful too! This is a no hook-up camp, so bring your generator and/or solar array, there is a sewer dump up the hill about a mile away at the Silver Overflow Camp and also hot showers at the same location. We love the Pines and have enjoyed our first summer here. We will be back for another summer of camp hosting in 2019! If you have a golden age or disability park pass you can get 50% off your single campsite, discount does not apply to multiple campsites.

This is the best campground in the Cloudcroft area if you like a natural setting.
Note that there are no RV hookups. However, there are pit toilets and threaded water spigots that you can use to fill up your RV tank if you are staying at the campground.

On Augusut 25, 2018 our group arrived at the site for a picnic, not intending to stay over night. Within five minutes of parking we were yelled at to leave as it was not a parking area but a campground. Our group proceeded to read the directions and deposited our campground fee though we were just picnicking. The camp host once more told us to leave. Upon telling him that we paid the fee he accused us of lying, began yelling at us, and again told us to leave or he would call the authorities. He then walked down to the depository box and pulled out the only depository envelope, which was my groups, though there were plenty of other campers in the area who had supposedly paid the fee. We had a member of the military with us and the man said he didn't care if he was military he was going to call the authorities. He continued yelling at us and informed us this was his campground. He then ripped open our envelope and attempted to pocket our fee. We asked him under what authority he had to be taking our money and asked him for his identification number to which he refused to reply. He continued yelling at us and told us to park in the overflow a mile and a half away, though there were still vacant campground spots of which we had just paid the fee. We snatched the money before he was able to put it in his pocket. This all happened within 30 minutes of arriving at the site. For our safety we decided to leave the campground as others in the campground began surrounding us. Do not stay here!!! The beauty of the site is not worth the aggression and risk to your safety.

“$28 A Night For A Built Toilet”
noted 7/20/2023
Another disappointing Cloudcroft NM campground at $28 a night for nothing but a vault toilet and dumpster. All the campsites in this area are the same, limited amenities, sites on top of each other. Cannot imagine why these camping sites around Cloudcroft get high ratings.
