We love this area. We have stayed near here at Middle Mountain Campground earlier in the year, and both experiences were really nice. This is a good place to go, if you are looking for something just east of Durango.
Our spot had a lovely view, with very close proximity to the bathroom. Firewood is $10. There is drinkable water available. There was plenty of shade from the pines, but the spot offered enough clearing for our solar panels & clam quick set tent, as well as both the 4runner & teardrop. Neighbors were quiet. I have to mention that the hosts Terry & Candy work their butts off. When new campers arrived, they quickly went to meet them , explain the overall camp offerings, and they kept those pit toilets cleaner than I have ever seen! They were constantly on their cart replenishing the bathrooms, and cleaning the sites. So impressive. Though $34 may seem steep for dry camping, that price is for the premium spaces on the water, which are very large overall. I'm a remote worker & my Verizon is enabling me to consistently view data, and stream a few YouTube vids with 2 bars. I would not attempt to watch a full movie though. There is an AT&T tower close by, but like a dope, I forgot to renew my hotspot. The host states it works "OK". The site closest to the entry has a large clearing which was reported to be better for a Starlink set up, if that is your situation. I hope to return every year!!!!

We were in site 15, a waterfront site. Beautiful site with tall pines all around great view of the lake.Park host was excellent. Restrooms spotless. If you’re coming from the north end of Vallecito reservoir, the road in is very narrow, steep, and rough, so be prepared. Entrance from the south is much better.

This is one of three FS campgrounds on the east side of Vallecitos Reservoir. The CO camping guide books I had listed this as the most scenic of the three. They were right. The lake is about 14 miles north of Bayfield, CO on Highway 501. Once you reach the lake, it splits into 501A heading east around the lake. After a mile it becomes a gravel road known as FS603. It's about 3 miles to Pine Point. You pass Graham Creek and North Canyon campground first.
We pulled in here on the Tuesday after Labor Day. Only about 4 other sites were occupied including the host. The traffic flow is one way thru but many of the sites are back-ins with the angle opposite what you'd want. I suspect many ignore the signs unless they have very small rigs. A fairly good number of sites large enough for RV (40' max according to FS). There are 5-6 sites with excellent lake views but come at a premium $25 versus the standard $22. They give half off for Golden Age pass holders. The campground was very well maintained (the host raked each site after it was vacated), tables, fire rings, plenty of water spigots, clean vault toilets, and trash receptacles.
We were extremely lucky and found the best site in the campground vacant - #18. It was long, level, easy to back into and had uninterrupted lake views from our back and off-side door. Loved it so much we stayed 6 nights. Quiet, lots of wild life including deer, wild turkeys, grouse (we think), and free range cattle. Hiking trails were supposedly in the area but we only found 1 by accident. Fire wood available for purchase but plenty around for scavenging even that late in the season.
We had no cell service with T-mobile, but speaking with others ATT and Verizon did have service at least for voice.

This is an excellent campground.
It’s not too big, not too small, but just right. Just about any type of camper would enjoy it. From tent campers to large busses. When I was here in the summer of 2018 the lake, which is actually a reservoir, was empty. It wqs nice to return and see it full!
The campground literally is on the shore of the lake. Most spots are nicely level.
There is water, and standard vault toilets, there is no electric.
I had two to three bars of verizon.
The road in was abnormally wide, hard packed gravel and not rutted. Any vehicle could make it.
The lake/campground is about 30 miles from Durango, a popular mountain town. There are a couple smaller general stores on the lake, where you could pick up a few supplies. There are numerous restaurants on the other side of the lake.
There are several FS campgrounds on the lake, all on the easter shore, but this one felt best overall, although they are all quite nice.
There is a host on site. Closes for the season this year I think he said 9/9/2019.
I did not stay, but drove the entire campground for the purpose of adding to the Campendium knowledge base.
