Very quite but busy lots of semi trucks I slept like a rock no one bothers you and bathrooms were clean and hot. I love these out of the way stops, they are always so nice and beautiful. It was about 40 degrees but I slept so good

Got here around 8pm after being unable to find a camping spot nearby (last minute on a Friday night in October). Several “sites” still available, but many trucks pulling in looking for spots. We were lucky to find one at an end corner (we can’t back up unless we unhook our Jeep). Later at night, trucks started parking in “no parking” spots. Loud rumbles all night (white noise), but occasionally someone would blow their horn at the trucks illegally parked.
I guess that’s what to expect at a truckstop on the east coast along I-81. Made me miss our truck spot stop near Fargo, ND :-)
Easy access, level sites on asphalt.

There are 9 reservable spots for $15 a piece but they weren't any different than the free ones, so we didn't get one.

Since we are doing a multi-day "rush" from NY to FL we are stopping only overnight and have chosen not to stop in a campground unless it is convenient to the route. Our first night was in a casino parking lo and last night was here at a Pilot truck stop. It's a bit different from the usual ones as the truck lot is up a hill from the gas station (diesel is up here) and restaurants but otherwise relatively the same. There are 12 reservable sites and we did reserve one and pay but I am reviewing this as a free place because there is little difference overall.
1) the truck stop is right off I-81/I-64 easy to get to and GPS will direct you up the hill to the truck lot if you use the 3541 Lee Jackson Highway address
2) the reserved places ($12/night) back up along a fence and face the larger free lot. I was told that a Monday night would be quiet but by morning every space in the free and reserved was full so if you need to stop there calling ahead to reserve a spot would be a good idea. You do NOT need to pay until you get there and can change your mind, so if there are free spots you simply park and cancel your reservation. We chose not to simply because we are slaves to our cat and he was happier with us parked next to a semi-permanently parked container that was silent. The reserved places are, however, not quiet and there is rad noise though neither bothered us much.
3) there is a covered walkway from the lot down to the station where there is a Subway and an Arby's. There is apparently also a good German restaurant across the street but closed on Mondays. Be aware that if you are walking a pet down this walkway there are 2 semi-feral cats living to the right of it. They have an "igloo" house but a dog might "get excited" though there is a fence.
The sites are all very flat and easy to get in and out of-in the early morning many of the truckers will be leaving so there maybe a line to get out.
I did not use the showers or the restrooms so cannot speak to the cleanliness but there was a bit of trash along the fences. There is construction going on up the hill and perhaps that explained it.
Bonus: though we didn't need it the store is stocked with supplies and truckers being the nice guys they are if you are having any sort of an engine problem there are plenty of people around to help.

This is to share my feeling about pilot reserve parking. The way pilot has started blocking too many spaces for reserved parking it is ridiculous and not going to be a healthy sign of doing business in the near future. Pilot has started blocking those spaces for reserve where drivers like park and feel relaxed. Our observation is at the most you can keep 5 spots reserve not more than that. The current policy of reserve parking in the terms of too many spots blocking for reserve parking is pissing most of the drivers off and ultimately you are pushing the drivers out and showing those drivers the way to go to your competition. Think about it. and do not concentrate too much on this rather focus on Fuel.
