Nicely maintained sites. Some water spigots, some bathrooms, solar shower. Boat ramps picnic tables. But...the 14 mile dirt road out there is rough! I wouldn’t take any RV on it.

“Great Resource for Paddlers”

Picacho State Recreation Area (main) is located at the end of an 18 mile gravel (and often washboard) road. There are 54 sites in the main campground along with potable water and an RV dump. When I was last there in January, 2014, there were only 6 sites occupied. Some sites are shaded, many have good solar potential. There is some interesting hiking in the area. The fee varies from $20 to $30 depending on how many licensed vehicles you have (three max). In my opinion, the claim to fame is the solar hot water system for the showers. Wonderful after a couple days on the river!

Picacho also has some remote sites ($25) that are motor vehicle accessible. Outback is located on the northern border of the park next to a section of the Imperial Wildlife Refuge. The road is said to be very rough. The road to 4-S was reasonably good this year according to a couple fellows that drove in while I was there.

I've visited Picacho a number of times, but always from the river. It makes a great, legal location to break up the 35 miles of river between Walter's Camp, CA. and Fisher's Landing, AZ.
