Stayed one night on 3/10/2024 at Picacho Peak SP on Loop A at the base of Picacho Peak Mountain. Park is a quarter mile off I-10, about 45 minutes from Tucson.
Loop A has nice size sites with some privacy spacing and light brush/vegetation. Paved pad was deep and wide enough for two vehicles. Some sites have a shelter over the picnic tables. Electric hookup only. Restroom was extremely clean and had a small "take a book, leave a book" library at the entrance.
There is a hiking trail that parallels the main road for hikers. Bikers are restricted to pavement only and not allowed on trails. There is a picnic area at the far end of the main road and a trail head to hike the South side of Picacho Peak Mountain.
The Nature trail is very beautiful and generally flat with gravel. It has frequent signage identifying the plantlife. There are a few gullies to go down and back up. Make sure to stop at the stone monument to the Civil War battle that occurred at Picacho Peak in 1862.
The main feature is the hike to the summit of Picacho Peak. The ranger stated that is takes about 4 hours round trip. Gloves to use on the steel cables are highly recommended. This is a steep, difficult hike.
There is some steady traffic noise from nearby I-10 but not a factor.
AT&T service and got a solid 2 bars of coverage.
Overall, a very nice place to camp.

Recently someone commented that there are no showers or a dump. That’s incorrect. There are fully functional flush bathrooms with showers and a fully functional dump site. What they don’t have is water to fill your Rv. Water is available down the road at one of the big truck stops, Flying J I think. Great Place To Relax!

I marked yes for staying again, but it's really a maybe. It's a really nice park with beautiful views, nice trails. But there was no water, no showers, no dump and they still charged FULL price! So if it's like that next time I pass through I won't stay. If there was water or a dump available I would have stayed longer.

Beautiful park right off the interstate. We were really looking forward to this stay, but there was no warning or information provided about a major bee problem at the park. Maybe it has something to do with the time of year (August), but it’s VERY obvious this is a known issue. There were only two other RV’s parked in B loop (A and C were not open), and both were literally covered in swarms of bees. We only had time to connect the power before noticing the bees were pouring into the RV through any crevice they could find around the slide outs. We immediately packed up and left for another place in Tucson. Extremely disappointing and a waste of money. There needs to be alerts posted about this major insect problem!!

Tiny lightning-attack Pokémon creature or tall isolated hill – either way, Picacho State Park was a winner! We were glad we’d reservations because the campground was completely full when we arrived. The spaces were very well spread out with lots of vegetation between and trails did not disappoint. Each site had a picnic table and firepit. We had 50amp electric, but no water. You are warned to come with a full tank as there is no water fill at the park at this time. Yes, you can see the traffic on the freeway, but we were far enough away that the noise was not bothersome.
You can hike to the top of Picacho Peak, but we saved that for another time. We did hike the Calloway Trail to see the wildflowers. With the wet spring the desert was in full bloom, and it brought the tourists and photographers out in droves. We left around 9am on a Saturday in mid-March and the trailhead parking lots were already full and the line to get in the gate was easily over a half mile long!
We had 4 bars of Verizon 4G.
