Peterson Lake Campground

The campground itself is very small- a circular gravel drive with a few sites. There are picnic tables, fire rings, a well pump and a pit toilet. Two sites are waterfront. The lake has nesting loons, ducks and several other types of birds. Looks good to kayak in. The walk to Kelly lake is nice, and there is a trailhead to 2 other lakes there if you’re looking to hike. The surrounding area was burned in 2019, but it’s blanketed in fireweed. Some highway noise and a lot of people driving through the campground (especially on the weekend). Pretty mountains in the distance if the sky is clear. Verizon cell coverage was so-so, but I had enough data to send files with the booster and pepwave

Peterson Lake Campground is a level, gravel parking lot on the northern shore of Peterson Lake. There are four sites around the edge of the parking lot as designated by tables, two of which are directly on the lake. There's a small boat ramp and a single cast concrete pit toilet. The campground (and Kelly Lake from the same entrance road) is not well signed at the highway (near mile marker 69) and thus doesn't get much traffic. Great access to the lake, and while my phone didn't show any Verizon 3G bars, I was able to get 4 bars with the antenna and amplifier.

Only one other boat on the lake when I was there in mid-June, 2013. Everyone else was shoulder to shoulder on the Kenai.
