Road to the place is dusty but ok. Road in the place is bad, full of big rocks. We stayed on Saturday so a few bikes rode around at night. Felt save, would stay again.

Sometimes I take it with a grain of salt when people say roads are bad. But these ones were bad! On the way there it wasnt too bad but once you get to the camping area its horrible! And the sites I could get to were extremely unlevel. This is definitely for smaller rigs. (I drive a 25ft class c)

It's an OHV area, not really camping. I got there at almost midnight on a Friday night, and there were two other vans/RVs that I saw, probably a few more further up. Early Saturday morning brought lots of folks with ATVs and dirt bikes, so sleep wasn't that great. There is a vault restroom, which is nice. The road in is three miles of dirt, residences and farms on either side, the last mile rather washboarded in parts and full-on rutted or rocky in others especially near the site itself. Even though it's out in the middle of nowhere, there must be an AT&T tower nearby because my connection was great.
Verizon good.
AT&T good.

We camped just past the toilets on the left. Had a 26ft travel trailer and we were able to get it in the spot. I wouldn't suggest doing it unless you are pretty good in tight spots. Great BLM land to stay overnight!! Car camped for a couple nights and felt very safe, only 1-2 other vehicles around. Beautiful view of the stars at night and mountains in the morning!! The road up wasn't bad, a little bumpy but overall good!!

Once past the vault toilets the road becomes extremely rocky and narrow. Take my advise if you value your vehicle, do not enter.

Great location. Very beautiful. Drive wasn’t bad really the last mile is a little bumpy. They do have vaulted toilets so that was nice. Over all was a good free and safe place for my family and I to park and get some rest.

This is home to Independence Trail; an absolutely wicked off road challenge with a lot of rock climbing. This is a 9.5/10 difficulty do only attempt in a group with big boy toys. We were here over Labor day weekend and a Jeep Jamboree showed up with jacked up rigs to conquer this trail.
There are about five sites tucked back just past the parking lot and vault toilets. The road in is a little choppy buy I made it just fine, although slow, in my 40' Class A.
I was here this time to get some work done on my RV by Red's RV Repair. A very knowledgeable RV mobile mechanic with fair rates out of Penrose.
Good internet speeds from all 3 major carriers.

If it wasn’t for the busy weekends and the four wheelers I would have given this place five stars for sure! It is quite opposite during the week as literally nobody goes up there. We were alone for about four days straight without seeing anyone else. It was amazing. I’ve stayed there twice and it was the same both times with the privacy. The spot I was in is at the top of the hill where it flattens out. As soon as it flattens out you look to your left and there is a large fire pit back about 30 yards. It is very secluded in this one single spot. You are surrounded by trees and landscape on three sides! There are other spots on the way up to this one which I did stay in one of them but none has the room or the flatness like this one. I have a German Shepherd to consider so we always need a large space to play in front of us without cactus hopefully. For that reason, this spot is one of my all-time favorites so far. The road getting up here is quite bad and probably one of the worst roads I’ve had to drive on yet with my 21’ travel trailer. We had to do two or 3 miles an hour all the way up but it is doable and once you get up it flattens out and is quite beautiful. There is a “staging area“ at the top where it flattens out (across from my favorite spot) or you can camp there because it is probably 3/4 the size of a football field. Aside from the occasional dirtbike or four wheeler this is one of the quietest and darkest at night places I have been. I absolutely love this spot.
It is also only 15 minutes or so from town and is extremely convenient.
