Pedernales Falls State Park Campground

The drive to the park is amazing. Once in the park the views are just as awesome. The Pedernales River is flowing just right to relax in and wonderful for children. Most campsites are shaded but high noon is a heatwave. They only have one electric campground. The stars are amazing on a clear night. Plenty of shooting stars. Plus you get to see the Milky Way. Facilities are well kept but only two for the campground. No sewer hookups but they do have a dump station. Ice and firewood are available with the camp host. Some sights do have your picnic table on the wrong side of your door camper. We had to go in truck first so we could face our campground area. Plenty of wildlife. We were able to videotape pigs and deer. Also the bird watching cabin is awesome as well as their walking plant garden. Oh there is no cell service what’s so ever. You might get a bar at the ranger station.

Most of the campsites will require a good amount of front to back leveling, but we had no problems once this was done. Our campsite was surrounded by trees and was fairly private. There is good spacing between sites. There was a footpath behind our site to get to the Twin Falls Nature Trail. ATT and Verizon showed only one bar (even with our Mobil Mark antenna), so not enough to stream video, but enough for texts and phone calls. Our generic tv antenna that came with our RV could pick up about 21 OTA stations, but most were pixilated. Switched to our King Omnigo portable antenna and got 22 clear stations. It rained most of the time we were there, so we didnt get to use our picnic table or fire pit, but we did like the location of the picnic table and fire pit close to the door side of our RV. All picnic tables are covered.

This was my first time visiting Pedernales Falls State Park and I was surprised by it's beauty and diversity of landscape. November was a perfect time for camping. I have an Aliner Expedition and was able to hook up to shore power. The weather was cool in the morning but warmed up into the high 60's in the afternoon.

I am a photographer and the area on the river by the falls was spectacular for landscape shots, especially in the late afternoon/evening. The hike to the falls was not difficult and the trail was well marked if you are used to trail hiking in the woods. There is a swimming area not to far from the camping area that would be very nice in the warmer weather. The bird blinds had an abundance of birds as well.

The campsite was in very good shape, and had recently been updated. In addition, the bathroom facilities were very clean as well. You do have to drive to get to many of the key locations, but there is ample parking at those locations.

I will be returning again in the spring!

Located right across from the Trammel Crossing Trail. Several nice hikes throughout the park; the Madrone trail was interesting due to the small Texas Madrone trees (more like bushes) on the route. A small bathroom was nearby, and a larger one just up the road from that.

The space was not level but it was not hard to level the trailer. Wheel chocks a must, I put both on the front side of the tires versus my normal one on each side.

I used the small Netgear LTE antenna mounted to the window of the trailer and we could get enough signal with my Verizon hotspot to stream Netflix most nites. I had no signal with my AT&T hotspot, did not try the external antenna with that.

This place is great to stay.
The sites are very nice with RV and tent camping on the same site. Each site has a picnic table and most of them are covered tables. Some sites are short but there are a few larger sites. Trash dumpsters are convenient to most sites. Most of the sites have ample space between them. There are a few that multiple families could all be together on.

The falls are really neat to see. At this time there is not much water in them but the geology is impressive.

There are a ton of trails. Some are just hiking some are horses and some are biking.

The trails are marked but like most places you will need to have a decent sense of direction and a map just for safety.

The park has electric gates for entry for after hours and on days that they are closed to all but campers. If you call ahead on the day you are to arrive they will provide you with the code.

The park is not close to any town so make sure you have what you need or you will be driving.

As far as cell coverage we have a wineguard 2.0 (cell booster) with Verizon and we could get 1 to 2 bars most times. We were able to stream you tube but only on our computer as our TV did not like the slow connection. Our cell phones worked fine going through the wineguard.

Note that in the summer this place will be very very hot!

Overall it is a great place to get away.

We enjoyed the trees and shade on site 63. Not far from the trailheads. Quiet as well.

Covid has brought this park access controlled gates at the entrance so remember to ask for a gate code. They did not give us one and arrived to find a gate and had to start calling to find someone who could open the gate. We even arrived at 4pm before the office closed. Thankfully someone picked up and allowed us in. That’s messed up.

Although the falls was really a trickle right now, it was still an amazing hike and gorgeous views. Highly recommend taking the River Trail to the falls - as the name suggests it takes you along the river to the falls. Not a super easy hike but if you are in moderate shape it’s not a problem.

Campsites are VERY spacious, but almost none of them are level so be prepared to bring enough leveling blocks. We had electric and water hookup and were lucky to get a relatively shady campsite that was also very close to Trammel Crossing trailhead. River was extremely low and kind of warm but nice enough to sit in and relax after a great day of hiking. Didn’t take our mountain bikes but we will def go back with them.

No store but they did have ice and firewood for sale. Cash only and currently only open from 0900-1100 and 3-7 pm. Not sure if that’s year round but that’s what it was this week.

Highly recommend this park if you are into trails!!

This was our first time camping at Pedernales Falls State Park, which is a shame because we live just 15 miles away in Dripping Springs! We booked in advance, which I would recommend because the spots fill up really quickly. We could tell the park is only allowing 50% capacity because of COVID currently.

When you enter the park, you'll drive through a gate and head to the park headquarters. The rangers issue you a permit that must be displayed in your vehicle. Although hilly, the roads were easy to traverse and we didn't have any issues pulling a 20' travel trailer. We stayed in spot #10 and it was really nice. Great privacy with about 100 feet or more of trees between you and the next spots. Covered picnic table, fire pit and grill, and pretty good shade. 30 amp electric and water access worked well and we needed minimal leveling. Restrooms were modern and clean with showers, a drinking fountain out front, and a map of the park. Very quiet at night, but I'm not sure if that was because of 50% capacity, or just typical.

You could walk to the swimming area from the RV campsites, but it's definitely over a mile. With a 3-year-old we chose to drive, and really enjoyed the rocky river area. Everyone was respectful and socially distanced, with plenty of space. There are a lot of stairs down to the river, so I recommend a backpack to bring things in. We also enjoyed the twin falls loop which is accessed right in the RV camping area. It's about a mile long and even our little one powered through with some hand-holding.

We can't wait to visit Pedernales again!
