Overall Rating

This is a very popular campground next to Brainard Lake with some sites first come - first serve and others are reservable. The Elk loop is more open and farther away from the lake. The Moose loop is heavily wooded and closer to the lake. All sites in both loops are pretty well spaced apart with plenty of room. The scenery is spectacul... more

Overall Rating

We first drove past the road to the campground, because it was not marked like the other ones since it was part of the Brainard Lake Recreation Area/Indian Peak Wilderness Area that is the sign you will see. The road was a little bumpy getting in and when we got to the park entrance there was a line about 12 vehicles in line. After ... more

“Brainard is a wonderful get away. The hiking trails are fabulous. The wildflowers are spectacular if you catch them in July. One sees Moose near the lake often. ”

This small campground opens late every year. The campground lies at the foot of the Continental Divide, next to 25-acre Brainard Lake and the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area at an elevation of 10,350 feet.
