Overdeveloped and uninspiring. We walked in the Nearby Sonoita Creek Natural area til late afternoon and didn’t go out in the park til sunset when everyone else was in their campers or at their campfires. Lovely and peaceful by then, but we’re getting out of here in the morning. Won’t return. Can’t report on restrooms and such as wouldn’t set foot in them.

There are hiking path and walks next to the lake. They have bathroom and shower that we watched it be clean daily (we didn’t use). It’s about 1 1/2 hours away from Tucson. The closest grocery store is about 10 minutes. We did see some amazing birds and cows roaming around. FYI on using GPS that you take the 19 hwy exit 12. If it directs you to get off exit 8 it’s not an RV friendly drive. We would return again.

Reception here is not great but there’s WiFi at the Visitor Center.
The sites are almost all very small and very close together. You’ll probably be real cozy with your neighbors. The lakeside tent camping sites are just normal side-by-side parking spaces with a picnic shelter behind; it looks and feels weird. Many of the sites are on an incline. I was here between Christmas and New Year’s, so it was a particularly busy period and I’m sure it’s a lot more chill if you’re coming when not every site is occupied.
Hot, clean showers. It’s a well-maintained AZ state park and I’ll definitely be back.

Campground was nice, but very crowded and very small tight spaces. Site had electricity & water, dump station leaving park. They had a small store but half hour drive if you had to go into town. Lake looked pretty. We really did not explore too much.

We lost power at the post (as did everyone else in our Loop) both nights. There were storms but the other big Loop didn’t lose power.
No restrooms or showers available. Port a potties were nasty and we chose to use our own. The dump station was closed but nobody could tell us why.
We used the day use beach spot one day and we’re glad we got there early. It was absolutely packed. Nobody really enforcing social distancing and maybe saw one or two people with masks on. Not too concerned personally about the mask thing but there were easily a hundred people there throughout the day.
We’ll visit again but probably in the cooler months so we can enjoy the outside without getting baked in the sun...and not have to worry about AC.

Pros –
- We stayed on the East and West sides during our visit. Each has their own advantages. The east side is quieter and closer to the birding trail. The West is closer to the visitors center and bird feeders.
- All of the volunteers that worked around the park were friendly and accommodating.
- The myriad of trails and the birding trail are wonderful.
- So much to do – from kayaking the lake to hiking miles and miles through the desert.
- Incredible area for birders – not only within the park but also the nearby Patton house
Cons –
- none

We reserved site 20 online, which said it was 38’ long, while being 38’ we had to hang over the edge by more than a foot crowding a mesquite tree. Some sites are tricky to get into if you are a big rig and not exactly level. Be mindful the site map might be misleading.
Other reviewers did a good job reviewing the park. We enjoyed it and recommend the East Camping area. We did a good hike over in the Sonoita Creek Preserve.

I was lucky enough to arrive at Patagonia after several days of overcast weather so it was absolutely stunning to see it for the first time in perfect weather. The park itself is very well tended with staff and volunteers out and about. Check-in was easy, just my license plate numbers for 2 hang tags. I was lucky to have reserved this site in advance as the park seemed completely full, but this site was surprisingly quiet and nice, overlooking a steep cove.
Prior reviews mention it being crowded - the main west camping area (sites 40-105) is very much so with a crush of weekend warriors, kids, bikes, grills, etc. The east loop with sites 1- 37 was, for the most part, more spread out and not as congested. There are really nice cabins up on a ridge above this area. What wasn't apparent is that between each cabin are really nice back-in gravel camping sites apparently, I was told, used as overflow. I'd definitely try to land one of those next time - great views and away from all the commotion.
Site hookups and dump station were fine, the site reasonably level, with a clean picnic table and fire pit. Lots of garbage barrels and recycling throughout. Birders love this area and there are boat tours provided by the park. There were lots of people fishing but once you paddle out on the water you really appreciate how beautiful this area is.
Cell service was limited but I was able to get 3 bars (boosted) of AT&T. It also depends on where you are in the park. The little town of Patagonia is really cute with a great taqueria & natural food store. Farmer's market on Thursdays.

We stayed overnight because it was late in the day but honestly this place is outrageously overpriced for what you get and especially since it’s another example of Government confiscating our land, making some useless improvements, then selling its use back to you at a ridiculous price and adding in a bunch of policing to go with it.
We awoke early and got the heck out of dodge. Way over rated. Save your time.
