It was quiet and peaceful, site was close to bathrooms and hot showers.
Stayed one night and didn’t get a chance to explore will definitely do it again.
Kid and pet friendly. Staff was helpful.

Relaxing spot.
Very clean.
Clean restrooms and showers.
Be sure to check the weather. All the trails were closed when we stayed due to recent rains.
If you have a large vehicle, the drive down in is going to be hard. Search YouTube to see the drive in.

We stayed here only 1 night as we were traveling cross country on I-40. The detour to this park is well worth it, due to the unique canyon and fantastic trail network. Unfortunately the day that we stayed there all the trails were closed due to the recent torrential rain storms. Likely they were closed for safety reasons, as the mud on the trails was very slippery, and it looked like some of the canyon sides were shedding large rocks. They have a really nice trail network here that we didn't get to experience. We stayed in the hackberry loop and had #22 which was nice. Some of the sites are not very level and are not really the best for parking an RV, so choose your site carefully. Bath/shower facilities were well maintained and there very hot water available in the showers.

We came in later than anticipated, traveling east with 2 time changes so pulled in at 9:30pm. Was a little worried about the 10% grade, driving a Coachmen Galleria 24Q we rented but the decline was only for part of the drive and not the entire way. On our way out, in daylight, it was easy to see how steep it was so maybe it was a good thing we came in late. Easy setup, level ground and nice patio area. There was a fire pit/bbq at our site but we were pre-warned no fires at this time. It was quiet at night and we sat outside and saw numerous shooting stars. We only stayed one night as this was a layover on our way to Mississippi. About 20 minutes off the 40 and the road to the State Park entrance was a little confusing (under construction) and dark. The kids & husband enjoyed riding bikes on the trails and around the campsites while I got the RV reorganized. Our site only had 50amps but we had a 50 to 30 converter cord just in case and hooked up to water too. The bathrooms and showers were very clean. On our way out, we dumped at the dump site in the park. Lots of cars and hikers (likely day use pass) when we left. The views from the top were beautiful. Surprised we had Sprint/Tmobile service most of the time.

We stayed in the Mesquite Loop, which is about 7 miles from the park entrance. All of the sites in Mesquite loop have gorgeous views of the canyon. Some of the inner spots might include a view of your neighbor, but still with a spectacular view of the canyon. The sites, at least in the Mesquite Loop, are all very spacious and private, especially on the outside of the loop. The campground was completely full during our stay, but it felt like we had the place entirely to ourselves. Our particular site (#89) had a stunning view directly into the canyon. It is very dark at night, and would be perfect for star-gazing on clear moonless nights.
We had no cell service of any kind until we were out of the park, but we do not use a signal booster.
On our exit we got to take a closer look at the other loops, and Mesquite is the nicest, in our humble opinion. But the other loops are also very nice. There are two dump stations on the way back out of the park, but they could easily be missed, if you're not looking closely.
The road from the entrance into the canyon is paved, but has a 10% grade in parts and switchbacks that might feel pretty narrow at times. But lots of big rigs were camped in the loops, so just take it slow and plan ahead if there are oncoming vehicles.

Camping during COVID, everything is crowded, but the first site we were given in Hackberry (the very last shown as available online for at least two weeks prior) was ridiculously close to the next site. We drove the 5 mi back to HQ to see if there were any alternatives and they did have one, which was much better. Cannot speak for the other CGs there, but they were meeting the state's 75% occupancy limit during the virus by counting the CGs closed for maintenance as the unused 25%, whereas I think the spirit of the guidelines was to reduce contact btw people who are actually camping in the available campgrounds (where we live in TX, nearest state park is not opening some of the sites to space out campers). So a bit clueless on the safety protocols, but otherwise fine. Didn't use the campground shower but facility was newly renovated. I'd stay here during less crowded times, if those ever return.
