Wellfleet Hollow State Campground

We have been staying here for many years, even when it was Paine's Campground. This is a basic, no frills campground in a great location between the ocean and the bay in Wellfleet. The state now owns it and they have done a great job updating the bathrooms and sites. The state has also been able to keep the quiet and peaceful atmosphere that we have always loved about this campground. Plus there are a few sites with running water and electricity, which is hard to find at a state campground. We will keep coming back and are so happy the state is now running this amazing campground.

State of MA has purchased Paine's Campground in 2018, and it is now run by Mass' DCR.

There are some quieter, more sparsely populated sites, some sites closer to the entrance, some closer to the showers, and so on - one must look at the map *and* read site descriptions.

This is a decent "standard" campground. Current (as of 8/2019) downsides are:
- lack of a full-service camp store (although firewood is sold and a very helpful staff member is present until 9 PM);
- showers are, I'd say, "rustic" - but renovations are scheduled for this fall (2019).

I can't evaluate their RV features as we had a car and a tent, but I do know that the number of sites with hookups is limited (under 10), and some turns are sharp.
